I stare at the boys, all kinds of thoughts going through my head.
“Are you crazy?” I ask them. “Didn’t you hear Sam? Those guys are very powerful, they’d crush you with the snap of their fingers.”
“What are you so afraid of?” Landon asks, smiling at me. If he thinks that’s going to calm me down, he’s got another thing coming.
I shake my head. “You can’t take Them on-”
“Not alone, no,” Chris agrees. “But we can if we do this together.”
It takes some time for his words to sink in. “Wait, you mean openly standing up to Them?”
“Why not? You are a princess now,” Landon says.
“Yeah, for like, a few hours. They’d never take me seriously.” I sigh. “You don’t know what They’re like. You never had to admit your mistakes while They were punishing you, with everyone else just watching. You don’t know the reach of Their power.”
Landon comes over to me and drapes his arm around my shoulders, giving me a weird feeling in my stomach. “Don’t you want to help your friends?”
