Chapter 28

When Landon said there was a small problem, he was clearly underreacting.

As I walk into the hall with Landon and Seph, the first thing I see is a scarlet line running across Chris’s cheek. As I look him and Sam up and down it only gets worse.

Sam doesn’t seem to be able to stand on her left leg and Chris is cradling his right arm. Both of them look like they’ve been to hell and back.

“What happened?” I ask them as I rush over to them. “Let’s get you back to my room.”

“Actually, it would be a better idea to go to my room,” Seph says, getting over the shock of seeing Sam and Chris. “It’s bigger than yours and everyone can sit on the couches.”

Together, Landon and I help Sam to Seph’s room and as soon as we’re all settled, they start talking.

“We were ambushed,” Chris says grimly. “They were waiting for us just off the main road.”

“It’s Them!” Sam exclaims.

“Relax,” I tell her, throwing an arm around her. “Why don’t we let Chris tell the rest.”
