Chapter 5- Explosion

So normally when you go to school, you learn about math and science and talk with your friends and whatnot. At this school though if you were a mutant you had problems such as rocket science or combat training and such. As for me though? Well, it looked like I was dealing with a man who seemed adamant about blowing up a part of our school.

Now granted, pipe bombs aren't that destructive. Only a long length of pipe filled with gunpowder or black powder that's set off to send shards flying. It's only when pipe bombs are being planted right next to one of the school's main exits, attached to a tripwire, that it becomes a problem.

So I did what any normal super-powered mutant with increased strength and agility would do and ran straight for the door. Now yes this wasn't my smartest of ideas but it was the only plan I had. It was either act now to stop him or just let the bomb be planted and risk going all the way around the school to get outside to disarm it.

I bust through the door rather easily and knocked the man on his ass while the tools he was using flung out of his hands across the ground. He grunted shallowly but almost immediately stood back up in a fighting pose, utilizing Krav Maga. Krav Maga was a combat specialized martial art used by modern-day militaries in Asia that focused on self-defense mainly. A soft chuckle escaped my mouth seeing the martial art pose that I could easily get past. I dropped down onto one foot and swept his legs out from under his with a swift kick before kicking him in the stomach with a hefty kick. A groan escaped the man as he rolled onto his stomach, the perfect position for me to sit on his back to keep him pinned.

Clink. Wait what? What was that noise? I looked around to investigate the metallic clink before I realized the man had just pulled a grenade pin out from under his jacket. 'Shit!'

I dove off the man and onto the ground as far away as I could throw myself just before the vest the man was wearing exploded, leaving a bloody mess. My head was ringing and I could feel the shock of the explosion as I pushed myself up. I couldn't hear anything and my vision was blurry, a dark red stream slowly coming into my view. 'What..? Is that... blood?' my hand found itself on my forehead. Sure enough, I was bleeding.

"Garrett!" Atomic had come running out of the door and stopped in her tracks as she saw what had happened. "Garrett... What happened?" she gasped softly as she shrunk away from the bloody mess. I didn't blame her for it either. It made me want to vomit just seeing it.

"Angely... Go grab the principal *cough* and tell him there's been an accident." Students were starting to appear in windows and peering out of classrooms as I held my head and gave Angely her instructions.

"Y-yes Garrett... I'll be back soon!" With that, she had run off to go grab the principal. 'Fuck!' My head was hurting like hell. I reached up to feel around and assess the damage to my skull as other teens came rushing out of the school to come and look.

It appeared I had definitely cracked my skull and there was no fact about it that the gash would need stitches for regular humans. For me though, it would heal in a manner of minutes. I couldn't let that happen while people were watching.

I grabbed a ripped piece of cloth from the dead man's clothing and began wrapping it around my head to stop the bleeding. Then Angely came out with the principal.

"What have you done Garrett? Destroying my whole school isn't enough for you?" The principal was a stern man and everyone feared him. He had teeth as white as salt but his smile had always revealed he himself was a little dirty on the inside.

"S-Sir... someone was trying to plant a bomb. So I stopped them. Or... tried to at least." I pointed at the dead body that was already beginning to coagulate and appeared to be shaken. The crowd needed me to act like just your average silent type that saved everyone's life. Although I was technically trained to take them.

"Sir, " Hawk said as he walked up to the principal before looking at me and giving a wink. "He looks a bit shocked. Maybe I should take him to the nurse's office?" I decided to go along with it. I needed to talk about what I had witnessed but I couldn't in front of everyone else.

The principal took a quick look at me before giving a sigh of agreement to Hawk. "Take him. But I'll be by later for questions!" I immediately stood up and walked over to Hawk, avoiding the corpse on the ground.

"Come on. We can talk when we get there, " Hawk said and I began to follow him. We walked past several classmates as well as normal humans trying to get back inside the building. All of them gave me an eery feeling in my gut as I watched. Then we were inside and no longer had anyone around.

"Garrett. Explain to me in full detail how it happened." Hawk was always a stickler for detail. Ugh! This is gonna suck.
