The nurses room clock ticked silently in the corner of the room, although it sounded like a million tiny little bombs at each second. I had already explained what had happened in full to Hawk and he believed me oddly enough. I didn't even know if I believed myself. The fact that I had just taken on a man that had a bomb vest on and survived was already clouding my mind just like the concussion I was feeling starting to take effect.
Luckily though, my head had already healed up. I got here just in time before my healing capability began to take its course and the wound took barely anytime at all to heal. Better than nothing if I'm being honest. It was a pain to hold my healing back. I would get nothing but an insane itching sensation around a wound until I allowed my healing to slowly replace the damaged tissue.
Then there was Atomic. Angely. She was the first person to find me and see what had happened. She was the one who got the principal for me. It must have been horrifying for her to see what had happened. I had trained for moments like that and the possibility to take lives. She on the other hand was a non lethal combatant. She was only supposed to train for missions she wouldn't have to kill anyone. Just like her partner Alex (AKA Ice Mistress). This was just all too surreal to be actually happening.
"It's my concern that one of my top students has just been involved in a terrorist act! And if you have a problem with that then go back to your station and tell the chief I'll wring his neck myself!" The Principal was outside arguing with the police officers that had came by to investigate the situation. To them it just looked like a terroristic act attempt, but the Principal knew that there was some other reason behind all of this.
Creak...
The door opened and the Principal walked in with a heavy sigh and a drained look on his face. The old man might have been powerful but he also got tired sometimes. His first couple steps were shaky but he gained control over his walking as he slowly made his way across from me to sit in a chair. 'Here we go,' I thought to myself as I knew I was about to get chewed out.
"So you're going to have to tell me exactly what happened Garrett. Like how did you know he was dangerous? What he said to you. Stuff like that." His cold eyes ran over me as I fumbled with my hands. Surely he couldn't expect me to know exactly what happened! I could barely comprehend it myself.
"I'm not sure, sir. I smelt gunpowder coming from the man before I even saw him. When I smelt the gunpowder I turned towards the door and there he was. He was holding some sort of makeshift pipe bomb in his hand and seemed to be setting a tripwire. I don't know what else to say other than I acted on instinct." I took a deep shaky breath after explaining and hung my head down into my hands. This was just too much. The smell of the mans blood as well as the site of his mangled body were popping back up into my vision. I had to regain control of myself.
Slow breath in, slow breath out, in through the nose, out through the mouth. I began to calm myself and push the visions from my head as I practiced my breathing technique. It was obvious this had shaken me a little. I never meant for anyone to die, regardless of what the man was doing. But I just guess it had to be this way. "Garrett, did he say anything to you? Anything about why he was doing it?," The Principal pauses for a moment, "or the symbol attached to his jacket?"
The Principal lifted up his hands to reveal he was holding a portion of fabric from the mans jacket. On the piece of fabric was a symbol that looked very odd. It seemed familiar but I couldn't place a finger on where I had seen it before. "No sir, I'm sorry but I don't recognize the symbol. And he didn't speak to me." I took the piece of fabric and ran my fingers over it as that wave of familiarity washed over me again.
I gave the fabric back to him though. I had seen enough. I just wanted to be by myself or with my partner and friends at the moment. This was just too stressful to handle. "Can I see my friends now?" My voice came out soft as I almost whispered it to him, making it obvious his presence wasn't helping much.
"Yes, Garrett. Your friends can come see you now. As soon as you're capable you can leave and go home. You don't have to attend your afternoon classes because of this. I promise." He gave me one more cold smile before he stood back up and walked out of the room. A moment later my friends entered and didn't say a word. We sat there in silence for a long time before one of them perked up. "You want to talk about?" Angely asked me softly.
I merely just shook my head and looked at the floor as my mind was racing. What was that symbol? And why did it seem familiar? And why did this all happen in the first place?
