Chapter 30: Grumpy teacher

The next Monday morning at school things went better than I thought unlike last week I knew were to go and most importantly I didn’t make a fool of myself in the parking lot.

“Hey!” Called a voice behind me. It was Jason wearing his manufactured mischievous smile.

I smiled too as I think he look like a elf except for the spiky ears al the rest was similar.

“Hey!” I responded still smiling, he must had guess I was thinking something funny about him because he asked.

“What’s so funny about me?”

“No, nothing just something stupid cross my mind that all. Thank you again for the other day.” I didn’t mention Wednesday purposefully because I knew it would understand and I didn’t want someone there to find out about what happened to me that day.

“No need princess, I’m your personal chevalier.” He said realizing a half bow before.

“Che...Che...valier ? what that mean?” I had no idea of what that mean, I was average in English and I didn’t wanted to meddle with others, Spanish was already enough headache I didn’t need another one.

“It’s how they say knight in French.” He responded.

“Uh if you say so.”

“Here, there is a little den on the side but everything else work just fine.” He said as he handed me a paper bag.

Inside was my lost cellphone, I wondered how did he found it.

“Where did you found it?”

“It doesn’t matter now, just say thank you. I’ve wandered a long moment to find it.” He said instead as always he wanted to avoid responding one of my questions straightforwardly.

“Thank you.” For now I resolved that no matter what I would find the true behind all this. I didn’t knew yet but I suspect that there was something fishy behind all this. “Oh yeah, give me your number please we have known each over for a week and I still don’t have it.” I said handing it back to him.

He did and handed the device back to me and the bell rang at that moment signaling class starting, it was Monday so it was math for me with Mr. Haggens and after that Spanish for both of us with Ms. Hernández. I wonder if she would be there? If she is what would I do?

“What are you thinking about?”

His question startled me I didn’t realize that for a moment I was so completely lost in my thoughts that I forget where I was.

“Huh...?”

“Where did you go?” He said moving a hand in front me.

“Nowhere. We need to go or we will get late for class.”

“Ok, but we’re not done.” He said as we reach my class.

“See you later.”

I was the last to get to the classroom and it sucked to have all the eyes pined upon you.

“Almost late today I must assume it’s an improvement compared to last Monday. But miss Lightwood you must know I wouldn’t accept you coming late to my class again in the future.” That was the first thing I heard from Mr. Haggens after entering the classroom what made the situation worse for me, I was already feeling uneasy because of the attention upon me but after what he said I felt worse.

“Sorry Mr. Haggens, it won’t happen again.” I said.

“For your one good I hope so.”

Something must had gotten to him I supposed because I was sure that I get on time in the classroom, he was right last Monday I was late but just because I didn’t knew where to go and that day was ...I wasn’t able to find an explanation so I decided to let it go.

I get to the chair that now I considered mine. That day the topic was more interesting than the previous times but I still had to force myself to pay attention to what he was saying. I had the feeling someone put everything on pause so every single minute seemed like an eternity.

After what seemed like a week seated in that classroom wrestling to pay attention in no matter what he was saying the bell finally rang freeing us from the torture.

“Ok, for next session you all need to read chapter twelve of your text book and don’t forget that next session there will be a text.” Said Mr.Haggens what was followed by protests of the majority present in the classroom, so did I even if I did do it out loud. “And ms. Lightwood before I you go, I need to talk to you about something.”

‘Awesome the last thing I need is a grumpy teacher to put more pressure upon me than I had already .’ I thought.

On his there was paper scattered, maybe exams from other students but I didn’t pay too much attention I just wanted for him to say whatever he wanted very quick so I could go to my Spanish class.

“You will say Mr. Haggens.” I said first.

“I’ve read your file and know that you were homeschooled for a long moment but now you’re here, so I can understand that you are not accustomed to follow a schedule like your fellow student but it time your get on track. Next text if you didn’t get at least a B minus you won’t assist to this class again.” He said.

‘This man has a problem.’ I thought after hearing what he had said it was only a week since I started assisting classes like a regular student.

“Why...why that?” I asked I needed to now the reason behind all that.

“The first day you came late and missed the last session on Friday without reason and today also you came late. I have great expectations for all my students and for what I’ve seen in this days doesn’t speak well of you Ms. Lightwood.” He said as he stared organizing the paper upon the desk, I was so dumbfounded and didn’t knew what to answer to his affirmation.

So I stand there until he finished to fold everything into his bag.

“You’re still here!” He said as if was surprised to find me standing there “You can go that’s was all I wanted to say.”

I exited the classroom and went to my locker to get my Spanish book but I was distracted rethinking about the exchange I had with Mr. Haggens so I didn’t payed attention to the people around me until I found myself bumping into someone or maybe a wall for how hard it felt and I fell bruising my but.

‘I don’t know for other but I didn’t think I would be able to ever sit on a chair again.’ I thought as I was on the floor too ashamed to get up because my little adventure attracted the attention of everyone in the corridor and for what it’s known of teenagers some was laughing and others did as nothing had happened.

A hand appeared in front of me ‘thank God.’ I think ‘at least someone who care .’

I outstretched my hand and got his to get on my feet.

“Here you go, I’m sorry I didn’t payed attention before. Did you get hurt?” He said.

“No I’m...” I started to say but stopped after seeing his face, it was him.
