Chapter 40: Last Cry or First Blessing

P.O.V Leonard

It was like a nightmare, the worst of all.

I kept looking at the starry sky above the big rock, hoping that the portal may appear again, hoping that we read it wrong in the text left by Stephan, and hoping that the prophecy was about three portals, not two.

I heard her shuddered breath, making my heart squeeze inside my chest. I couldn't dare look at her or comfort her.

I couldn't believe what just happened.

Tightly shutting my eyes, I tried to blink away the tears that gathered inside them. It was too much to believe. The pain was overflowing, and I couldn't put a lid on it. I rubbed my chest, trying to calm my heart from the outside. But, it was beating so slowly that I almost couldn't breathe.

And I let it all go. I howled loudly. I wailed. I cried, not even trying to notice Caitlin's pain. My heart was sore, her's might have even stopped beating.
