C4 Mysterious Occurrence 2/2

She looked serious all of a sudden so I stared at her with a curious expression, she saw me and revealed:

"There's been a lot of cases at the hospital where I work where patients have injuries from a long fall. They say they fell three floors from the ground. It seems like it was that undead ghost's sloppy deeds."

"An undead ghost is going around throwing people off windows? but how did a ghost get all the way here? I thought ghosts are high level monsters that only appear outside the walls?"

Ghosts were monsters beyond walls that stay on abandoned buildings haunting trespassers that set a foot on their turf. They were often avoided because of their high intelligence and speed, plus, they couldn't be harmed with regular weapons.

"It's pretty weird, right? Most of all, why the third floor? and why throw them?"

"I'll get my revenge on that ghost someday!"

"Alright, alright, settle down. First we have to get you to the cathedral to get you blessed. So that next time we come across it, you can deal with it by yourself without 'dying'. Anyway, we have to buy a replacement for the broken window after I go to the hospital and heal some patients to get some money."

Just as monsters appeared in the world, statues in every cathedral glowed with brilliance and every person who prayed to it, will be blessed with the power to protect themselves.

In other words, you being blessed was gaining the ability to use the mana in your body through God's will.

"Say Isla, when you were blessed, what age were you back then? and how did it feel?"

"What's with the sudden question? Are you looking forward to gaining power? Well, I was so young then, at the age of 12 they brought me to the cathedral and had me pray for a few hours, it took so long but when the angel statues inside illuminated the place, they let me out with smile on their faces as if to congratulate me."

A sad expression drew her bearing, but she quickly turned back to normal. It was the face of someone who experienced something horrible, so I asked her follow up question to slowly divert her attention.

"So, How did it feel?"

"I don't really remember the feeling but they praised me saying I was a prodigy or something, but it died out when I tried to use my power and showed a poor outcome."

I see… Even I wouldn't want to remember that.

Most people would not be able to be blessed at such a young age. She was the first one ever to be blessed at the age of thirteen. They had high expectations only to be broken with disappointments.

After that 'miracle', they stopped bringing in children to pray in long periods of time.

"Well that's disappointing."

"You're disappointing! Hurry up and finish eating so I can wash the dishes."

We finished eating and went to bed early out of exhaustion from all crazy stuff that's happened

Isla tucked me to bed then let out a chuckle and a smile as she noticed me gleaming with excitement for the blessing ceremony.

"You don't have to do this, you know?"

Even if she considered herself as my older sister, she was still my age.

"I know."

She whispered as she laid on the futon next to mine.

**

Morning came and we ate breakfast then prepared the necessary clothes needed for the ceremony.

I was standing in front of a cracked mirror with vines circling around it. I was wearing a long-sleeved, hoodless garment called 'cassock' under a 'greca', an overcoat that covers the cassock. They were all black in color. These clothes were worn by priests when they attend masses. We didn't have the full set of clothes so we decided to only wear the ones we had.

Staring at my almost priest-like appearance, I shouted:

"Isla! Is this really okay? Is the ceremony going to work without wearing all of it?"

"It's fine! Everyone only wears those pairs nowadays when receiving the blessing."

My thumping heart felt a slight relief after hearing her assurance.

I went to the entrance of the room where we were staying and saw my 'sister' wearing a casual white one-piece dress with a cute flower pattern and a ribbon as a belt emphasizing her chest then a Panama hat on her head.

Her hair tied only at the back leaving some of it dangling in front.

She was holding an umbrella on her left hand while spinning a keychain on her right index finger.

I stared at her bewildering image for a short while and let out a loud sigh.

*sigh

Her face quickly changed from a bright smile to an annoyed frown after hearing me sigh.

"What's with the long sigh?!"

"What's with the flower pattern?"

Seriously, a flower patter at this time of the year?

"It looks cute, doesn't it?"

"You do know that flowers at this age eat people, right?"

We walked outside to the elevator and rode it down to the ground floor.

"Those are different types of flowers! This type does not move nor attack anyone!"

"Those types are extinct."

Although the world was flooded with greenery, not a single flower survived because they are being uprooted the moment they sprout, as they may turn into monsters without warning.

We walked out the elevator greeting everyone on the way. Some asked where we were going but we didn't bother because it was obvious from my attire.

"Good luck! May your faith be strong." x3

A few wished me luck. As to why they did that, was because the ceremony of giving power to humans depends on their faith to God.

'The stronger the faith the stronger the power.'

They say.

We rode a motorcycle on the way to the hospital before going to the cathedral to pay a visit first to her mother who was working overnight watching over a parent who was about to give birth in a few hours.

"What floor is my mother in?"

We ask the freckled girl who was standing at the front counter of the hospital.

She was standing on a box so she looked tall from afar.

She had a small figure with an bigger sized chest, thin waist, and a big round bottom.

The one-piece nurse uniform she was wearing made her body look nice.

Her freckled face, yellow eyes, tied blue short hair and red lips were cute all together.

She had a twin sister who runs a bakery shop down the street.

"Your mother's waiting on the third floor little Isla, she's really tired so please hurry."

I looked around the building and saw nothing but clean halls.

Unlike most buildings in the city, the hospitals and cathedrals didn't have giant vines crawling all over them. One reason was, hospitals are always cleared off of plants for the safety of the workers and patients. As for the cathedrals, they have the protection of the angels sent by God so most plants won't survive the divinity they give off.

After we heard her advice, we hurriedly went up the third floor and casted recovery magic on her mother to remove fatigue. We took a short peak on the patient and left the building immediately.

As we were on the road I asked her:

"Why didn't you cast Recovery magic or Heal to the patient earlier? She was really in pain you know?"

"We can't just carelessly cast our magic on patients because it might cause complications. In her case, she had a baby in her stomach, if I suddenly cast recovery magic which is a single target skill, the umbilical cord connecting both her and the baby will fail to function properly and the baby would die."

That's scary.

"Even regular patients need to be examined before being healed with magic."

I guess even with magic at our hands we couldn't always get away with everything scot free.

We reached the cathedral after a few minutes of driving.

We scheduled to have my ceremony today so that when we arrive, everything will be in order.

All that's left to do is for me to be left alone in the room and pray with all my might so that the blessings of God will be placed on to me by the angel statues.

"Let's get started right away."

I followed the priest's instructions and proceeded with caution not to anger God when praying.
