Reunion

I was beginning to get overwhelmed by Xetu's fast and precise attacks. He truly knew how to use a staff, and this knowledge may prove to be the end for me...

I shook my head to rid myself of those thoughts and fought on, blocking and parrying Xetu's increasingly fast attacks. He was underestimating me but, he was soon learning that he couldn't afford to, so I had to use his overconfidence against him while it lasted.

Xetu was beginning to chain his attacks together, leaving me virtually no chance at retaliating, however, I had noticed that he would slow his speed down just a little bit in order to keep himself from tiring, so I thought that would be my only chance to attack.

I continued to block and parry while slowly getting in position to strike. Xetu let up on his assault and I sprang forward, like a snake closing in on its prey, and slashed out. I barely nicked his shield as my sword passed harmlessly through his afterimage.

I used the momentum of my strike to spin and block Xetu's attack just as it was about to collide with my face. Xetu leaned in and said "I'll admit, your reflexes are pretty damn good, but your skills are worse than trash! You'll die like the pitiful little roach you are at this rate!"

I heard Sam spew out curses at Xetu as I myself began to form a snarl on my face. I pushed Xetu back and burst into flames as I lunged toward him. The flames surrounding my body were like an extension of my will, as well as my anger, as they hissed and pointed at Xetu no matter where he was.

My attacks began to get faster and my precise as I kept Xetu on his heels with a flurry of blows. Lightning and fire collided to create loud booming noises each time they came into contact. I was focused solely on Xetu and rapidly tried to predict his next move, as Xetu was focused on me alone as he tried to find a way out of my chained attacks.

He knew that I was learning quickly and even adopting his own moves into mine in order to corner him, but it didn't matter now. I had already seen the extent of his powers. I feinted and kicked Xetu in the jaw, sending him spinning to the floor. He was able to jump out of the way as I aimed my blade at his heart, but I was already in front of him as he created a new staff.

Xetu looked desperate now as he tried to counter my attacks, but I was able to read his movements now that he had grown sloppy. I parried his attempts at countering my attacks and continued to assault him with a never ending dance of steel.

I could feel his shield weakening as I continued to pummel the overconfident Hunter. I kicked Xetu in his stomach, cracking his shield and causing him to lean over and cough out a mouthful of blood, before raising my sword and swinging it down with all of my might.

Cayde appeared in front of me with a gust of wind as he pinched the tip of my blade with his index and thumb, halting my momentum completely before shouting out "We have a winneeeeerrrrr!!" in an overly excited and obnoxiously loud voice.

The crowd was silent with their mouths agape as Cayde and that masked woman went around to collect their spoils. I turned to look for Xetu, but he must've run off somewhere after losing. The crowd suddenly burst into cheers as many people yelled thing like "That was worth the glimmer!" and "We may have a new contender for number one!"

I suddenly found myself surrounded by a horde of eager women trying to solicit and seduce me as they tried to get me to join their Fireteams, going so far as to even kick some people off preemptively. I tried to calm the growing horde of women zealous women by saying I already had a Fireteam, but Cayde joined in and said "Wait, I thought you said you didn't have a Fireteam yet...?" in a confused voice.

I apologized to the women and hopped over to Wraith, yelling "Do something! Anything, just please help me!" as I practically begged for him to get me out of this place. Wraith shrugged his shoulders and created a large purple circle behind him and said "Go, I'll teleport you to where the refugees were situated..."

I went to hug the Exo out of pure joy, but he put his hand over my face and flung me into the portal, saying "You owe me bigtime..." as the portal closed when the women barreled into him. I laid on the ground and saluted the Exo's brave sacrifice as a figure covered my vision.

I looked and saw Amelia's face looking at me with anger as she asked "What took you so long!? And why do you smell like perfume?" I couldn't hold back my laughter as I sprawled out on the ground and let my armor fade away before releasing a sigh of relief as I smelled the sweet smell of flowers.

After a while of just resting on the ground, I followed Amelia back to a large plot of land covered in massive houses, each of which could easily house ten or more people. I saw Mac talking to a few people outside of a lavish house and called out to him, causing the man to halt his conversation and jog over.

We shook hands and Mac pat my shoulder, saying "I knew you'd make a full recovery! It's gonna take more than a damned Fallen to take you down!" I felt a warm smile creep up my face as I laughed and rubbed the back of my head.

Mac left soon after to gather everyone else, so I had some downtime to catch up with Amelia, or rather I got forced to listen to her talk about how worried she was for the two weeks I was unconscious. Soon after Mac had told the rest of the refugees that I had come to visit, I had an excited, furry projectile wrap her arms around my neck with a happy cry. I fell down to the ground and rubbed Sayuri's back until Amelia was able to peel her off of me.

I dusted my clothes off and began to recount everything that had happened during my battle with Davrik, as well as my most recent encounters with the Vanguard and the Hinters Association, causing Sayuri and Amelia to glare at me when I mentioned that a bunch of women tried seducing me into their Fireteams.

The refugees laughed at their antics and began to tell me all about their daily lives and how peaceful it was living in the City and how their neighbors were extremely kind and understanding. Most of the younger men and women worked various jobs throughout the day in order to provide a stable income for their little community as, since they were so used to working together, they decided to form a system of their own where everyone helped each other.

I was beyond happy that these people had finally found their way into good homes and were able to focus on their happiness instead of survival. Since I had become an official Guardian, I now made it my eternal goal to protect these people and their lifestyles no matter what.

These people living within the City were under my care and, even though I knew I had help from the various amounts of Guardians scattered around the universe, I one again felt the weight of all of their hopes, dreams, and goals on my shoulders. However, it was a comfortable weight that I wouldn't mind carrying with me for the rest of my life.

Mac stood up from his seat and said "I know! Let's throw a party for our savior, and our dearest friend!" earning a loud cheer from the crowd. I laughed and shook my head, thinking 'These people really do make a big deal out of things, huh? Oh well, more alcohol for me...' Sam hummed in approval before saying 'And plenty of cuties will be attending I'm sure, ahaha!'

The crowd began to swarm to the biggest house on the plot, owned by Mac, as they sang cheerful songs. Sayuri and Amelia flanked my sides as I stared out at the crowd with a soft expression on my face. Sayuri looked over and said "I know you don't remember you past, but I'm sure we would all love to be you new family..."

Family, huh. Amelia looked over and said "That's right. All of the children look up to you and adore you, and all of us are eternally grateful for your kindness. So, how about it? Will you join our already massive family...?" I looked at the two women, no my two friends and muttered "I've always wondered about what having a family would be like..."
