Bloodstar

Pov.Asteria

I wandered through the town with Emily by my side. I looked at Emily kneeling as the kids running around called her attention. The children putting a crown made of flowers in her head made me smile. The small kids giggled and flew away.

"It's beautiful here," Emily said, spinning.

"Yeah, it's beautiful," I whispered in wonder. I cleared my throat, getting rid of all my non-sense thoughts. "But, we can't stay here, remember. Don't get your hopes up." I begged she was like one of the children running around. It would break me, to break her heart. Her smile instantly disappeared and formed a pout. "When you find your mate, you can ask him to bring you," I said, trying to cheer her up.

That seemed to make her forget my latest words. I looked down to see a kid wrapping it's legs adn arms around my leg. I stared at it in confusion. What was it doing? I tried shaking it off, but it wouldn't let go. The child started laughing and flapping her wings. I turned to look at Emily with panic in my eyes. "Emily, help. It won't let go." Emily seemed to almost burst laughing, but I didn't understand why. I saw a woman running towards us while Emily tried to hold her laughs back.

"I'm so sorry," the woman said while untangling the kid from my leg. I ran to hide behind Emily. I pointed at the child, "why was it doing that? Are children leeches or vampires?"

"I'm sorry, but my child is not an 'it' and, he has a name," the woman said while looking me up and down, judging me. Emily elbowed me in the stomach and cleared her throat.

"I apologize on behalf of my friend. She doesn't meet kids that often," she said, this time stepping on my foot.

"I'm sorry, it's my first time being this close to a child," I said, reaching to trying to shake her hand over Emily's shoulder. I was trying to keep my distance from the child. "What's your name?"

"I'm Cassandra, and this is Jerry," she said, pushing the kid a step towards me.

"Nice to meet you," Emily and I said at the same time.

"What are your names?" she asked, pushing the kid away, so it would go and play with the other ones. I left a sigh out in relief. I moved to the right side of Emily, not wanting to be rude to Cassandra.

"I'm A, and she is Emily," I said.

"Are you new here?" We both nodded in reply.

"Yes, but we are only passing by," I replied. "We are looking for the non-transformers," I said.

"Oh, yes, they are over the market. There you will find a field," she said, pointing in the direction she described. I saw the same kid run back here and pull at her hand. "If you may excuse me," she screamed as the kid pulled her out of our sight, flying away.

We eventually reached the place Cassandra had indicated. And there she was, the red dragon scratching the scales in her face.

"Hi," Emily screamed excitedly, running towards the red dragon. All the other dragons there growled at Emily for disturbing their sleep. "Sorry," she apologized, cringing. The dragons rolled their eyes and cautiously turned their backs, not wanting to step on her. I closed my eyes as she apologized and moved towards the red dragon.

I grabbed Emily's hand and pulled her the right way. The red dragon seemed to have enjoyed the show as her eyes showed amusement.

"You could have helped," I told the dragon, looking at her straight in the eyes. "You know you need a name," I informed the dragon. "What about grumpy?" I said goofily, she slightly growled.

"Iceheart?" I jokingly asked, and she rapidly shook her head. I thought for a second.

"I got it," I excitedly screamed. "Dalinda," I told her, and she seemed to think about it for a second and nodded. I looked at her excitedly, but then she shook her head.

I threw myself in the grass and looked up in defeat. Emily followed my movements and laid next to me.

"The three musketeers," Emily said, lifting her hand, and the dragon growled in amusement, almost laughing? Bloodstar. There was a Bloodstar the day I became friends with Emily, and I met her.

"Bloodstar," I said and sat up. "What do you think about Bloodstar?" This time she seemed to think it more through but eventually nodded.

"Yes!" I screamed and pulled Emily up. We started running around the dragon. "From now on, I baptize you with the name Bloodstar."

Bloodstar blew fire up and started jumping while we ran, making the floor shake. We giggled as she made us jump and fell on our asses. We stayed there for hours staring at the clouds enjoying the simplicity of freedom, but freedom is something you should never take for granted. We stayed there, figuring out the shape of each cloud. And when the sun hid, we named each constellation.

I don't know when the three of us drifted off, but I did feel the warmness of Bloodstar's wing covering us. I started with no friends. Now I have two. I felt safe and secure like no other time. I wanted to stay there forever.
