Let You Go

Very early the next day, the sun bright and shiny, the weather a little chilly, and the time a little past seven, I stood in front of the cafe.

If I ever wanted to get this done, now is the time.

I take in a deep breath and open the door to enter.

The cafe was still empty except for two customers who were gently sipping coffee at their seats.

Lisa was cleaning the tables when I walked in and she looks up from her tasks.

Her little smile turns to confusion when we make eye contact. "Alex?" She drops the rag on the table and walks to me, placing her hands in her apron's pocket.

"What are you doing here?" She asks when she reaches my side. "Don't tell me you're ditching school today."

I shake my head in denial. "No no it's not that."

She tilts her head. "Then what's is it?"

"I-I-I..."

Where did all the confidence I have go to?

Why is it when I'm standing right in front of her, I can't seem to say a word.
