As soon as I had turned back around from asking to go to my rooms, Lord Glade excused himself and returned to training.
The High Lord came back a short time later. He tried and failed to hide his anger at the fact that we weren't still talking.
High Lord Volanti, Lady Brook, and I watched Lord Glade train for the next hour. However, Lord Glade's breaks were short and he made no moves to talk to me, which further incised High Lord Volanti.
I didn't particularly like Lord Glade, but I wasn't entirely heartless either, so I began to make appreciative comments about him to Lady Brook. She remained impassive but High Lord Volanti seemed to soften a little.
Finally, after an hour, I begged was allowed to return to my rooms.
I swiftly changed and pulled off my ring of illusion. Then, donning a cloak, I left the palace.
The Adventurer's Guildhall was an imposing two story building on the outskirts of the city. As I approached the two burly guards out front, I pulled my hood up higher. Then I entered the building.
The day was still fairly new, so there were only four guild members in the hall. One was asleep on his table a flagon of ale from last night still clutched in his hand. Two stood before the quest board and the fourth leaned on the counter, flirting with one of the receptionists.
I walked up to the available female.
"I am here to join the guild." I announced. The female frowned as she heard my voice.
"By law, females are prohibited from joining the guild." She said coldly. She began tapping her left index finger on the counter.
I smiled although she couldn't see it, "This is an international guild and I am a Volantil female. By the laws governing my country, I can join."
"Despite where you were born, your country is that of your mate. You live here now so-"
"I am unmated and only visiting for the summer. I would like to do some training." I relied cutting the receptionist off.
The female's mouth twisted for a moment and she flicked her blond hair back over her shoulder.
"What part of no do you not understand?" She demanded. "Now get out before we throw you out."
Activate Skill: Lightning Strike lvl 5?, appeared before my eyes.
"Yes," I thought.
I angled my hand towards an empty table. White-blue electricity arced from my hand to the table. It exploded in a shower of charred wood.
Turning back to the now pale female, I said, "That was a warning. I have experience killing."
Before the female could stutter out a response, a thunderous noise like a running elephant sounded on the stairs. A half dressed, red-eyed male appeared. His hair was tousled as if he'd just awakened. His tired eyes roved over the remains of the table and everyone in the room.
"What the Other is going on?" He roared.
The pale female pointed to me, "She did it, Sir."
The male stomped over to me. He was like a mini mountain as he towered over me.
"You pay for that!" He snarled.
I shrugged, "Certainly, who said I wouldn't?" The male deflated like a popped balloon.
"Uh- right then, very well." He stammered.
"Sir," the female said regaining some of her earlier attitude, "I have told this female repeatedly that she cannot join the guild, but she refuses to leave." She complained.
"I am a Volantil female, I have every right to join an international guild with branches in my homeland." I countered.
"Stop lying, you hussy!" The female cried angrily.
"Furthermore, I am a Lady of Nolanar which also entitles me to join." I continued, ignoring the receptionist. I pulled my Crown issued Title Declaration letter from my bag and offered it to the male, who was obviously the Guildmaster.
Frowning he took the letter and skimmed it briefly. His expression darkened.
"Now I won't ask you to fire that incompetent female, but I do request that she be harshly punished. It appears that she has learned to rely on her looks rather than her brain and as a fellow female, that offends me." I told him coldly as I saw him finish the letter.
The Guildmaster refolded the letter and handed it back to me. The he turned on the female with fiery eyes.
"Again!" He yelled. "First, it was that half-breed, and then Master Jannus and now, you've insulted a noble. If this happens again, you will be fired." The female flinched and paled again. "And that table will be coming out of your pay!" Tears welled up in the girl's eyes.
The Guildmaster turned to me with a sigh, "Welcome to the Guild, Lady?"
"Sky." I finished for him.
The Guildmaster then stepped behind the counter and signed me up officially. He had to put me in the system and then switch my status to visiting. This took a lot longer than I was expecting and apparently, neither one of the receptionists could have done it, so it was a good thing that I had blown up that table.
However, an issue did arise when I informed him of my status as a level four. Unfortunately, to accept assignments, the minimum level a person could be was ten and to even use the training grounds the minimum level needed was five. I may have been accepted into the guild but my acceptance was nominal. I couldn't do the training that I had intended that day and returned to the castle.
The Guildmaster did say that if I could bring someone of level ten with me, he'd let me use the training grounds, but I'd have to check in before and after. This created a new problem, who would go train with me, if I asked them?
