Her duty as his wife

"I'm not coming to the office today," Ava said in whispers because Enzo was close by. Over the phone, her assistant was shocked. He had been getting surprises from his boss. Yesterday she got married to a total stranger and even decided to live with him in his one-room apartment.

Now she says she is not coming to work. She never does that unless she is very busy or has a plausible excuse like going shopping. That's understandable because she was a woman. But because she wanted to be a good wife?

"But Madam you have a meeting with Freja Corp. Their president said that he has a proposal for our new fashion line," the assistant informed her.

"Tell Roland to stand in for me and tell Freja Corp's representatives that we'll think about their proposal. I want to make the decision myself. Oh, if any of my brothers ask for me, tell them I have an appointment and it was a last-minute thing. Don't let them know that I'm married, yet."

Assistant Grey sighed. It seemed like there was no way to make her come to the office. "Yes, boss."

"Who was that?"Ava turned around and saw that Enzo had entered the bedroom.

"Oh, a friend of mine. I asked her to help me request sick leave." Ava said as she went to his tiny wardrobe and brought out his most decent shirt.

"Why are you taking a leave? Isn't your work important? And you're not feeling sick, are you?"

"Of course not. I just want to take care of the household today. I'll go back by tomorrow."Ava picked up the old iron that was in the room and plugged it in before she started to iron his clothes. It had been a long time since she did this type of work.

Enzo saw what she was doing and tried to stop her but she was as stubborn as a mule saying that it was her duty as his wife. Enzo had a weird feeling in his heart but he didn't dislike it. He knew that she was trying to make this marriage work out. He was willing to give her a chance but he didn't want to burden her because of his problems.

He turned around and went to his tiny kitchen to make breakfast.

"Here's your shirt, Enzo."Ava handed him his ironed shirt and a tie. After they ate their breakfast of noodles.

"Do you have everything you need?"Ava asked. Enzo nodded.

"Bye then. I wish you the best of luck." Ava waved at him. Enzo smiled at her before he went out.

Meanwhile, inside the room, Ava was cleaning up. Because the house was small, she didn't take long. After, she decided to go grocery shopping because there was practically nothing in the house. But Ava faced a problem, she could only identify a few things and she had never gone grocery shopping.

She had servants that did that. Even when she was at that place, they had people that did those things for her.

"Grey, I want two bags filled with groceries in an hour, and be quick." Grey was dumbfounded. How was he going to go grocery shopping now? He was just about to welcome the representatives for the meeting and he had to go shopping?

"Yes, madam."

After Grey brought the groceries to the apartment, she prepared a simple dish and put it in a lunchbox. Since she had nothing else to do, she might as well take a walk.

"We'll get back to you next week."

Enzo had just completed his job interview. He walked out of the building. He was feeling relieved and somewhat scared. The interviewer showed no emotions so he didn't know how well he did.

As he was walking home, he bumped into someone.

"I'm sorry-"

"Why don't you look where you are going?!" Enzo heard a screech. He looked and saw a heavily made-up woman carrying shopping bags.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to," he apologized.

"Oh, it's you, Lorenzo." Lorenzo recognized the woman. It was Angela, his ex-girlfriend.

"Angela, um, how have you been?" He asked her. He couldn't possibly forget the woman whom he used to love.

"I'm good." Angela flipped her hair. "I'm enjoying most of what you couldn't give me." Angela shook the hands carrying the shopping bags. The gold jewelry on her hands shining.

Enzo was hurt by her words. He forced a smile and adjusted his glasses. "That's good. I'll be going now." He tried to walk past her.

"Lorenzo, wait." He stopped. "I know you don't have a job yet. I'll ask my boyfriend to know if he can give you a position in his company," Angela said with a mocking smile and Enzo knew.

"It's okay. Thanks for thinking about me."

"No. Take it as a sign of appreciation. His company pays very well. You can at least get a good place to stay."

Enzo rejected her, but she continued to insist and he was getting annoyed.

"I'm sorry but I have to go now." He said firmly but as he walked past her, she dropped her bags on the ground on the floor and sat on the ground.

"Why did you push me? I did nothing to you. Wuwu." Angela acted as fake tears streamed down her face.
