Burrowed her way

Lorenzo was working overtime. He had just begun a new project and he wanted to complete the first part before he could go home. Kybers was going to launch a new software and he was part of the team responsible for it. Most of his team members had already left. He wanted to finish up and go home to his wife.

After a few half hours of working, Lorenzo completed his work and packed up to leave. He cold air hit his face as he came out from the building. He shivered slightly before he walked in the direction of his house. He didn't want to take a taxi because he didn't want to waste money and he was saving for their new house. Also, he wanted to exercise.

Lorenzo turned to a corner before he entered his street. He greeted the young girl selling vegetables with her mother and the old drycleaner living next door. Lorenzo walked down as his apartment was further. As he was about to enter, he stopped and turned to a direction.

He felt that he was being watched; someone was looking at him. Seeing no one, Lorenzo went inside.

"Hubby, you're home," Ava said as Lorenzo entered the small unit. She had run to hug him but stopped remembering that they hadn't come that close. Though they slept on a bed and Lorenzo hugged her to sleep, she still wasn't sure that they could be that intimate.

Lorenzo sensing his wife's intentions smiled lightly and spread his arms. Ava's face brightened and she jumped into his embrace. "Welcome, how was your day?" She asked him.

"Everything was fine. Sorry for working overtime," Lorenzo said. He was touched that Ava would still wait up for him though he came back later than usual.

"It's okay. Just inform me next time." Ava came down and held his hand. "Come let's have dinner."

They went to the kitchen where Lorenzo's food was kept in a lunchbox. He went to shower while Ava brought out the dishes. Coming out of the shower, he saw Ava sitting on the bed fiddling with something. On a closer look, he saw it was a lollipop. She was trying to unwrap it. He took it from her and walked to the kitchen.

"Have you had dinner?" He asked as he raised his hand above his head while Ava tried to reach for it.

"Yes," she replied. "Enzo, my lollipop." Lorenzo shook his head.

"I don't want you to fall sick. You eat too many sweets."

"Enzo," he looked at her. Her eyes looked like tears were about to fall. He wanted to give it to her but he didn't. She should be healthy or how will she carry their children in her? Lorenzo blinked twice. He wanted children with her. He'll ask her to remove the two-year lease. But he needed to work harder to make more money.

"Ava, I'm hungry." Lorenzo put the candy in his pocket and sat down. "Have some soup." He gave her a bowl of soup.

Ava grumbled. She was feeling so wronged. She needed her sweets. She wanted them so much. Soon a smile bloomed on her face when she remembered the pack Calvin bought her.

She glanced at him and went to the bedroom. Lorenzo looked at Ava's grumpy expression and sighed. He kept back the bowl and ate other dishes, mostly the meats and a few vegetables. But he kept the soup for Ava. He took the empty plates to the sink and washed them.

"Enzo." He turned back and looked at Ava whose expression was worse than when she left.

Ava had gone inside the room to look for her chocolates but couldn't find them. She searched everywhere she knew she could have left them but still couldn't find it. She then guessed Lorenzo must have hid them.

She went back to the kitchen where she saw him doing dishes. She couldn't help but admire his side profile for some seconds. Her husband was above average in terms of looks. He was tall, though not as built as her brothers. He was more on the skinny side. His glasses gave him this warm and gentle look.

Her sweets! Ava came out of her trance. "Enzo," she called and he turned. He looked at her for a minute before a smile broke out in his face. He realized she was looking for the chocolates he hid.

"I can't give them to you Ava." Ava frowned and folded her arms. "I want you to stay healthy. Hmm?" And carry my child, hmm?

"Enzo, please just one. Please Enzo."

He couldn't resist, looking at her expression. He brought out the lollipop in his pocket. He didn't give it to her immediately. "Let's go for a walk." He just finished eating and wanted to go for a walk.

Ava nodded and followed him. He gave her the lollipop downstairs. As they walked around the neighbourhood, they didn't speak to each other. The silence between them was comfortable as they walked matching each other's pace.

"Ava," Lorenzo called her name. She turned towards him.

"Ava, let's stay together forever." His words stunned her. "Let nothing ever separate us."

"Enzo," she called and was pulled into his arms. Ava smiled. It seemed like he now liked her and his ex had finally gone out of his mind. She had been worried. Especially the times when she caught him staring at the image in his wallet. She had thought that they wouldn't last. But she had successfully burrowed her way into his heart.
