During the shift change, all of the babies had to return to the nursery. After complaining and asking all of the annoying questions, Casse had relented and let the staff do their jobs. Sitting in the baby free room, she began to worry about nothing at all baby related and to organize and reorganize things around the room.
“Casse.”
“What’s up?” She looked up from where she was refolding their clothes in the bags Ma had brought over.
“You can use the shower, if you want.” Her eyes swiveled over to the bathroom longingly.
“The nurse said I’d need help.”
“I’m right here.” He gave no second option. After a moment's hesitation, she accepted.
Sitting in the shower chair, mostly naked and very focused, Casse dropped her head back so she could watch Aiden as he washed her hair. The shower head was on but turned away from them as he worked her hair to the lather, and tried his best not to meet her gaze.
