The hustle

The chirping of the birds could be heard in the meadows, the reflection of the day was gleaming in his eyes, his soft hands graced with mine as he pulled me up. His smile had left his face, now covered in worry and a hint of fear, he bends down decreasing the one-foot height distance and whispered "Are you okay?" making me instantly look down.

"I-I am SO sorry I didn't look where I was goin- and are you okay- GOD! did I hurt you?"

I shook my head, "I am fine" I whispered. "Oh thank the Lord!" he exaggerated, I didn't look up not trusting my voice, I just stood there, waiting not really knowing what to do. "Um" he whispered making me look around noticing that everyone was staring at us, I instinctively stepped back. I looked up observing his actions, his left hand was behind his neck and his skin shining in the sun with a maroon kind of line traveling from his wrist to his elbow, I wonder what it was?

But before I could conclude, he hurriedly said "I really have to go I-I hope to see you later" I stayed quiet, but then noticed that he wanted a reply, uh oh

"Uh- Sure, Sure. I- Um, sure" I squeaked, Oh GoD that's why I don't talk.

He giggled looking into my eyes then I noticed that his green eyes have a blue curve in his pupil. I just .... stared.

He smiled and made his way across the hall.

I just stared as he walked away.

"You know he is the guy I was talking about," Jacob whispered in my ear.

"What guy?" I asked coming out of my trace.

"The legendary player in the team?"

"Wha-" I let that sink, in So he was the guy with the gold medals who is swift, fast and apparently managed to trip himself on his s Cullen!" He grinned, there we go.

"Jacob, why don't you figure it out after I am done with the principal?" I asked in a little voice with a knock on the door.

"Get in." The two words rolled off with a firm held voice, sounding deep in work and slightly irritated.

I sucked in a tensed breath, ah the tension of dealing with another human.

I walked in, clearing my throat, the only practice I know could grab attention in a quick and quiet way.

"A! Mr. De' Costa! You are the new kid, aren't you? Did you got your schedule?"

Quick and fast, quick and fast.

"Yes sir. I did through the mail but was told to first meet you"

Good.

"Well I like to introduce myself personally,-"

He stood up reviling a full three-piece suite, without a tie, the amber-like skin shining with pride. He placed his hands swiftly behind and introduced himself, "- I am Taylor Higgens. The principal of this school and I am glad to have you." He completed with a smile.

"Um, I am Nicolas De' Costa" I babbled in an itch to introduce myself. He gave me a nod and sat back down, "So what is your first scheduled first period?" He asked not looking up from the paper which I presume was a list of certain students.

"Math I think."

That made him look up and his brows raised as he pointed his ink pen at me, "Ah, Mr. Cullen's class. He is good. Go to the last classroom at the end of the looker zone to the right" he directed then look back at her s work, I took that as my ticket to go.

"Got it, thank you, Mr. Higgens"

I went out, I found the class just when I was about to enter the door flung open onto my face, but was caught by someone. My heart picked up pace because of the sudden incident. "That was close," some said in a sweet tender voice, opening my close shut eyes,

it was him.

"Come in both of you." A guy called from inside.

"Let's go."

The green-eyed player said with a smirk.

I got in behind him. And once again just like the hallway, every whisper died down when he entered. "Late again Perseus?" A firm voice said I looked up, there he was our teacher, Mr. Cullen, heard that before, he was a stern man with a bald head and crooked teeth popping out when he smiled, he was wrapped in a beach blue shirt and blue pants.

I saw Persues flinch his fingers a little with that voice. His confidence or his pride full ora suddenly feeling like hunted prey. "G-got some stuff," he said looking down on the floor. His eyes flickering trying to focus on something,

A hand was put on his shoulder. No one noticed but I saw his breath get quicker.

"Go sit," he said.

He and I slowly slipped at the last left seats at the back.

I was kinda shocked that the last seats were still available.

Not so common among my people, to leave such a ripe seat.

With a swift flow, I sat on my seat, no longer wanting to gather any attention.

Taking my books out I looked at him, his brows were brought a little closer, he was trying to focus on his book but clearly was falling at it,

I am kind of observant, looking at people's habits I get to decide where to put them in my head.

The class went on and on, after a zillion years, it came to an end. We got up and ran like a zombie apocalypse was coming.

"Persues!" the professor called, we turned slowly on our heels, we? um, that voice made was directed in such a way that it made me turn too.

"Yes sir?" he asked looking down. "Nicolas over there is new, why don't you show him around and do one sensible thing today?" he said towering over Perseus. Which is weird and scary considering he is shorter than him, his eyes were looking up and down, making him shiver, well both of us shiver. "Yes, s-sir" he whispered.

We ran out of there,

"You don't actually have to do that you know?" I said looking up at his close shut eyes, he opened them, for a split second I saw fear, then it was gone.

"I do," he said turning around facing the hallway.

Then he whispered, not wanting for me to hear. "-Or else bad things will happen."
