Disappearing into nothing

are you going to let me go now I feel better” I said.

It had been about two hours since I ate. He insisted on me resting a little when I finished eating. He could be very convincing considering his features and right now I felt a little at ease keyword being a little he could still enter right now and kill me or remove one of my body parts or worse take away my innocence but he had not tried anything yet and that’s a good thing right?

“I will but don’t you want to know anything about what I told you” he said looking at me seriously

“look I am sure you are seeing things because I am not a whatever you say. I mean all those things with the food and all was just coincidence” I said trying my best to convince him to let me go

He cocked his head to the side “even the mind communication”

“that uhm that was just some kind of magic trick and I am sure it could have happened to anybody” I said stuttering a little

He relaxed more in his seat and gave me a knowing look

“my family will be worried sick about me. Two days is long enough for them to freak out. I fainted and you helped me and that is a very nice thing but now with the handcuffs and the weird stories it is looking more like a kidnap”

“I did not kidnap you I saved you” he whispered darkly

“do you know what normal people would have done Mr.…… I trailed off

“Gabe and don’t add the Mr. jeez I am just 20” he said cringing a little.

“they would have picked me up and taken me to the hospital and contacted my parents not bring me somewhere to “save me” and chain me to a bed to keep me from running away” I said gesturing to the chains that is very much still there

“I will release the handcuffs” he said his voice dripping with ice. Producing a key from his pockets he went to work on the handcuffs. “but promise me you would not shout or throw a tantrum” he said

“I promise” I replied willing to do anything to get the handcuffs off of me.

As soon as the handcuffs were out, I nursed my hand shaking it slightly while he left the room. He came back dropping an ice pack noisily on the table and without a second glance at me he was out the door.

The door closed with a bang. The sound of keys shuffling made me jolt from the bed. He was locking the door, oh come on!

“I am sorry but it is too late to take you anywhere tonight” he said gruffly

“is locking the door really necessary” I said

“I would not want you coming to stab me while I sleep do I?” now he was definitely angry.

The sound of receding footsteps made me turn back to the bed. He had no right to be angry no right I was the one that should be very angry he was the one in the wrong not me.

You fainted and he saved you, should he have left you on the street my subconscious reminded me.

Shut up inner voice.

He should have handled it better

but he helped you, didn’t he?

I answered with a sigh “yes he did” taking the ice bag and placing it on my bruised wrist.

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

I was woken by the sound of banging and screeching. My body went into full alert and I quickly jumped up from the bed that I had been sulking on for over two hours battling with myself if I needed to apologize or not and sleeping the rest of the hours.

It was probably early morning so what could be making that sound. I tried the door but it was locked, well no surprise there. I then tried calling out.

“is everything all right”

No answer

“what is going on?”

No answer

The banging was getting louder and my heart rate skyrocketed. My mind went to a hundred different places at the same time.

What if someone was breaking in?

what if there was a fight or worse what if he was dead?

At this particular thought my panic mode went into full swing as the chaos got louder and louder. I needed to find a way out of here and fast. I started pacing in front of the door glaring hard at it in a sad attempt for it to open. Then an I idea popped into my mind and I got to work immediately trying to keep my hand steady.

I pushed the bobby pin into the lock carefully repeating the words George had thought me when he was teaching me how to pick a lock.

“steady hands, insert carefully, twist”

At the first try, the lock wouldn’t budge. I let out a frustrated groan and tried again willing myself to concentrate on what I was doing and not what was happening outside.

The door opened with a click and I bolted out of the door immediately rushing to where the sounds were coming from.

I was confused at first not knowing where to turn to but another loud bang woke me up from my daze and I ran as fast as my leg could carry me down a staircase to where the sound was from.

I gasped at the sight in front of me. There was blood everywhere and a man stood gazing furiously at Gabe. A pizza box was discarded on the ground, Gabe face was bloody and the other man was clutching his shoulder. The room was in complete disarray with couches turned upside down and chairs flung to oblivion. There was even a broken piece of wood lying on the floor.

“what happened?” I half whispered half yelled ignoring my first instinct which was to run as fast as my leg could carry me away from here.

Gabe turned to look back at me with a surprised expression on his bloodied features.

“how did you get out? you know what please go back to the room right now he said wincing a little as if it was difficult to talk”

“seriously a human” the other man chuckled darkly.

“I expected more from you p……the other man started to say.

“shut up” Gabe said returning his full attention to the man.

The next few minutes happened in a flash. The man lunged for Gabe and Gabe fought back. I stood there frozen watching what was unfolding in front of me.

the knife the unknown man brought out made me become very frantic. The man stalked towards Gabe smirking evilly.

“I will kill you and I will enjoy doing it” the man said

“please don’t” I croaked. My whole body was shaking and I felt really helpless.

Gabe who was now on the floor looked helpless too with blood streaming down his face. With faltering steps, he stood up and smirked back with the same evil written all over it.

“not if I do it first” he said.

It was like I could not do anything my mind went blank at that moment all the action movies I had watched went out of the window.

The man lunged again and this time I thought it was the end but Gabe caught it mid-air and the struggle began. I knew I had to do something in that moment so with light steps I picked up a wooden beam I had spotted earlier and went to the back of the man and with all the strength I could muster I hit him as hard as I could.

The next few seconds was a blur. The man dropped the knife clutching his head giving Gabe enough time to pick up the knife and with a cry he plunged it deep into the man’s heart.

I watched as the semi large man crumbled to his knees cursing loudly. My eyes were wide and my breathing was frantic. With a heave of his chest he took his last breath and laid flat on the ground.

A few minutes of silence passed by as I looked at the dead man on the ground. Gabe stood there watching the man wordlessly

“He’s he he is dead” I managed to say

I looked at Gabe with wide eyes and he had this serene expression on his face as if he had done this a lot of times. maybe he had. Maybe he wasn’t a good person after all.

I looked back down and the corpse in front of me had blackened as if it was burnt to a crisp and I let out a scream stumbling back only to hit a wall. My hand flew to my mouth as I stared at what looked like a victim of a fire on the ground. I thought that was the height of it all until slowly, right before me eyes, the body started to disintegrate.

I watched as light fragments, bits and pieces of the dead body detach from it. hovering In the air like a feather fluttering in a light wind before it vanished. What was once a lifeless body was now a forgotten soul.

I screamed again this time with a choked sob coming out of my mouth. Right before my eyes the body that was once there disappeared into nothing.

“you should not have seen that” Gabe said and with that he stalked away leaving me in the place that was once a living room.
