Real friends fake family

I left the place with one destination in mind. It was already 7 in the evening but I did not care I just couldn’t stay there anymore.

I had tried calling Christy a few times but her phone was off. I knew I needed to tell her that I was fine that I was okay only God knows where she would have gone.

I found myself at the door of George’s house and with a very hesitant knock the door was pulled open by Mrs. Walter herself. Her eyes widened when they landed on me.

“oh my God Tamar you are okay” she said giving me a hug.

I almost shed tears in her arms because I felt everything, I wanted to feel with my family right there in that short moment.

“I am fine” I said confirming her statement.

“are you okay?” she said taking in my appearance and right now I was wearing a pajama short and a black top, the first clothes I had found when I opened my small wardrobe.

“yes” I answered.

“well come in” she said I entered after her to their comfortable looking house.

They had the nicest house in the street even though no one knew exactly what they did.

George had told me that she was some kind of online marketer that was why she was always indoors. The only time she left the house apart from buying groceries and throwing the trash was when she travelled once a month to only God knows where.

“George is not around he has been at the police station trying to convince those douchebags there that you are really missing” she said looking at me compassionately

I smiled something I had not done in a long time.

“douchebags?”

“yeah I have tried speaking to them myself they are complete blockheads”

I knew she was just trying to make me laugh and honestly, I loved her for it.

“he was ready to take my car and go find you by himself” she started more seriously “I had to stop him because he would have gone blindly, there was no clue as to where you would have gone, so I told him that he should try and get some kind of police back up so that it will be easier for him turned out they are very difficult to convince”

She took her seat on the couch facing the couch I was seated on.

“I am sorry for causing you any trouble” I said

“what? Trouble? Not at all, I wanted him to find you, hell I would give him my car, my credit card everything so he can find you. He’s my son and I love him but I also love you like you are my own daughter” she said looking at me with such sincerity and looking a little frustrated with me.

“thank you” I answered back just as sincere. I don’t think she knew what she had done for me if only she knew that she had made me feel a little ounce of love today well apart from my mum.

She looked really tired and there were eye bags under her eyes. Mrs. Walter always looked so fresh and stress free and now I could literally see the stress lines etched on her face. I wondered if she had not been sleeping because of me and it made my heart go out a little more to her.

The door opened and George walked in talking loudly

“mum I’m taking the car and you are not going to stop me this time. We can’t stop waiting for clues and they police are not helpful”

His eyes zeroed in on me and it widened.

“oh my God Tamar” and in two strides I was clamped shut in his arms.

“you scared me to death Tamar”, he said still hugging me.

“can’t breathe” I was finally able to choke out.

“oh sorry” he said moving back and smiling a little. He too looked like he had not been sleeping and I felt a little bit guilty.

“where were you?” he finally asked the question that I was waiting for.

“I will explain everything but right now we need to find Christy” I told him.

Mrs. Walter had already gone inside to rest a few minutes ago and I was thankful.

she may try to stop me or something after all I was missing for two and half days, I did not think she will appreciate me roaming around this night.

Wordlessly George picked up his jacket and followed me out the door.

“I will just text my mum to tell her that I am going out” he said to me.

“okay” I replied folding my arms to protect myself from the cold.

George noticed that I was shivering and extended his jacket to me.

“no thank you what would you wear” I asked

“I have a turtle neck see” he said tugging at the neck of the clothes he wore inside of his shirt.

I collected the jacket and we started walking to where we were sure Christy was.

“would you tell me why the Konni’s are going missing these days” he said chuckling to himself.

“haha very funny” I said looking at him with a little smile on my face.

“who annoyed her this time” he asked as we walked through town.

“she was just mad that my sisters were behaving normal and not bothering about me”.

“I agree with her your sisters are such uncaring brats only your mother bothered to do anything and Christy of course” he snarled.

“I did not write that note” I said after a few minutes of silence.

“I did not ask Tamar” he said.

“I saw it all over your face you wanted to” I answered back

“I did want to ask at least not right now Christy first remember?” I nodded and we sank into another round of comfortable silence.

“I hope she did not break another plate” he said probably trying to lighten the mood.

“what do you think” I said giving him a little sad smile.

We were finally at the edge of the little forest and wordlessly we began our walk to the exact location of Christy. Soon enough Christy’s black hair came into view and I stopped just watching my sister trying to figure out what to tell her.

George also stopped some few feet behind me just looking. She was in that position I have grown to call graceful. Her legs were under tucked beneath her and her face where taut with concentration it was just her and her book. The moon giving some sort of divine touch to the moment and the torch she held illuminating the space around her.

She always came here whenever she was angry. I discovered it though and then showed George, then her. No one else knew this place except the three of us. It was like a fortress a place to escape reality basking in the warm feeling of a fairytale or a Sci-Fi while George enjoyed his time with his laptop.

I finally let out a fake cough and she turned in a flash flashing her touch light to see clearly. She stood up abruptly and stalked forward with wide eyes.

“Tamar” she said breathless and without any time wasting she was in my arms. She gave me her signature hug the one that won’t let a single breath through my nostrils and I hugged her back just as fiercely.

“I thought you were gone” she whispered and I just kept quiet enjoying the feel.

She gently pulled back and noticed George for the first time and she ran to him and gave him another one of her hugs.

“thank you, you did bring her back” she said to him.

“not exactly Chrissy she just showed up” George replied a little embarrassed she pulled back.

“but you brought her here thank you” she said again. I smiled a little at that. Christy has always been like that sweet and almost pure-like. She had her own issues with anger though which she rarely allowed herself to succumb to but when she did, we get an incident like what happened at the house. She was always angry for the right reasons but it was still a dangerous thing to be around her when she was mad.

I sat down and all of them followed suit Christy pushed her book aside and I knew that I was about to explain everything. So, I did.

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

“you mean to tell me that you heard someone talking to you in your brain” Christy said.

“yeah” I nodded.

“I think you were right by being pissed off by him he may have had good intentions but he almost kidnapped you” George said.

“I know I said but why do I feel like an ungrateful jerk”

“but he didn’t hurt you, did he?” Christy asked giving me a questioning look. I shook my head.

“whether or not he hurt her or didn’t it doesn’t matter he handled it the wrong way” George said.

We were all silent lost in our own thoughts until Christy spoke up.

“maybe that what was his way of handling it”. We all turned giving her a puzzled look.

“think about it you did say that he was very different the way he spoke, walked and looked almost eerie” I nodded at that.

“he is different Tamar the first thing that came to his mind was to take you to his place as opposed to what another normal person which is take you to a hospital, he is not normal”.

George nodded at that and I just averted my gaze feeling really guilty. Maybe that was why I felt all wrong when we parted ways.

We entered another round of silence.

Somehow, I knew we were all avoiding the main problem at hand.

Christy knew about my dreams George to and I had told them what Gabe had said they had probably put two and two together now I was just waiting for one of them to blurt it out.

“what if he was telling the truth. The dreams, the mind communication, you being able to read emotions perfectly well and every other thing. He’s obviously supernatural after everything you saw” Christy finally spoke up gesturing with her hands.

I turned to George and he nodded wordlessly keeping his gaze on the ground.

“we have to find answers Tamar and he looks like our best bet you cannot keep living like this with all these things going on” Christy said.

She was right 18 years of my life I had lived with all these traits. The dreams started when I was 17 but the emotion thing was since I was little. I did need answers and he looked like the only person that could help me.

“I let him go in the heat of the moment I don’t know where to find him” I said a little loudly.

“the note” Christy exclaimed it could be some clue or something. At this George peaked up and in a raspy voice he said.

“yeah”.

I brought out the note from my pocket and using Christy’s torch we began to read it;

Dear family,

When you get this, I would be gone and I wrote this letter to tell you not to look for me like ever. I want a new life I hate the one you have given me. Dad is gone and the love a family should have went with him. When he comes back in one of his drunken visits do tell him I send my best regards. I love you but it is clear that you don’t give two flying freaks about me. I will certainly miss George and Christy and you mum. I found someone and he loves me we will both start a new life together maybe life would bring us back together someday but for now goodbye

Yours lovingly

Tamar

We gave each other a look and I silently whispered

“I did not write this”

“we know” they chorused together.
