ALEXANDRIA

-------------------------------✒--------------------------------------

I poured the rose scented spice into the bath water before I moved my palm along the warm water. Sighing I got up to behold the little vixen who slept peacefully in my shirt all cleaned up.

I walked towards her and ran my fingers through her hair tenderly. I watched as she stirred in her sleep before her eyes fluttered open.

Immediately, a grin spreaded on her face.

" Good morning "

She greeted staring deep into my eyes with a smile. Only then did I notice that she had a dimple on both of her cheeks.

" How did you sleep?"

I tilted my head as I awaited her answer. If possible, an even wider grin made it's way onto her face

" The best in years. Thank you!"

She cheered and I hummed suddenly remembering the warm water for her bath.

" Get up now, you need to take a bath, yeah?"

I questioned and she nodded in agreement before flinging her little legs to the side and jumping off the bed with a great stamina which of course, didn't go unnoticed by me.

We both approached my small bathroom containing only a bath tub, a toilet and a sink.

"I love your bathroom!"

She exclaimed happily and I cocked my brow in surprise. Truly, what isn't valued by you is valued by another. I was grateful for the bathroom but I could not find anything special about it.

I peeled the oversized T-shirt off her body before heaving her and placing her into the bathtub half filled with water.

With shaky hands, I placed my hand into the water and sighed as it was still warm.

"Hmm..roses. I love the smell of

roses"

She informed me, giggling. The corners of my lips twitched upwards as I tried to suppress a smile.

She loves roses, I also love roses.

I bathed her with the soap and washed her hair with a rose-scented shampoo quickly to avoid coming in contact with the now cold water.

" I'll go get you another of my shirts, Child"

I informed her before getting up and walking away.

I squatted in front of my bed and pulled out a box filled with my T-shirts before selecting a black one.

I have never been one to go crazy about colours. I rather dwell with black or white clothing. Sometimes, blue and green.

After I had chosen the plain black T-shirt, I shut the box and thrusted it under the bed.

I got up and headed towards the bathroom fully focused on straightening the shirt to get rid of the wrinkles on it.

" Look at me!!"

The child yelled and I snapped my gaze toward her to find out the reason she wanted me to look at her.

"Wha--"

I was cut off by the already cold water being splashed on my face.

At that moment, it felt like I had left the earth. My whole mind turned blank and I swayed, almost losing my balance.

' Daddy! Here's my first research'

My four year old self yelled whilst jumping to gain attention from my father who was busy scribling down notes with a ball pen on an old brown book.

' Hmm..let's see what the little one has done'

He mused dramatically as I bounced on the balls of my toes in joy.

I watched as he read what I had researched on with his eyes squinted and brows furrowed in concentration. Probably because I had a very small writing.

He sighed whilst shaking his head.

' I won't sugarcoat anything little one. You tried, but.....you didn't quite hit the nail on the head so why don't you try again'

I gasped for air, taking in as much as I could like an animal with a lethal appetite.

My eyes opened and I saw the child looking at me with fear in her eyes. She was frozen to the spot and I smiled and approached her.

She bowed her head in regret. I placed my fingers on her chin and lifted her head with a genuine smile.

"I'm sorry"

She whispered and I tilted my head.

" It's alright aroon "

I assured her and watched as her eyes lit up. Just the reaction I wanted.

" What does it mean?"

" Love "

I replied bluntly and saw her eyes light up again. Probably because of the nickname.

"Can you teach me?"

She questioned clapping her small hands and I tilted my head observing her more.

" Love?"

I feigned confusion looking at her with narrowed eyes.

" No silly!, your language"

" All in due time Child, all in due time"

She narrowed her eyes. I guessed she doesn't know what it means.

" Uh..C-can you g-give me a name?"

She stuttered looking down again.

" Let's get you out of the water before you catch a cold. Shule Akila"

"Oh what a sweet bundle of joy"

Mrs Whiskers cheered as she pinched the cheeks of Akila with utmost happiness.

"What's your name sweetiepie?"

Mrs Whiskers asked as Akila looked at me. I gave her a nod of confirmation and she averted her gaze back to Mrs Whiskers with a smile.

"Akila"

" Well then Akila, how about we go make some pastries together, hmm?"

She mused whilst she watched as a grin made it's way on Akila's face.

"I thought that was our thing?"

I intervened, feigning disappointment whilst glaring at the both of them playfully.

"Oh hush! Stop being jealous. Now come on sugerpie"

With that, the both of them skipped to the kitchen while I made myself comfortable in Mrs Whiskers shop.

Akila had managed to unveil a part of me I never knew existed. I just felt drawn to the child from the moment I laid my eyes on her.
