Wang Yong woke up with a smile on his face for the first time in a long time, his dimples on permanent display. He quickly dressed up and ran downstairs for breakfast, huffing at the end of the run down the stairs...
He was surprised to see his father sitting down near the table eating calmly. Initially, he wanted to hug his father but when he remembered how he behaved last night, he suddenly halted nervously walking to his seat far away from him.
Liu Zhiqiang saw his son's hesitation to approach him, his eyes softening in regret. "Yong'er, yesterday.... Father was in the wrong. I shouldn't have yelled at you, will you forgive me?"
Wang Yong nodded, his bulging cheeks filled with food made him look like a cute little dumpling. His father rubbed his head in affection, dropping his teacup. "I just got a call from the doctor, that your mummy has woken up. Do you want to go with me to see her?"
Wang Yong had stopped concentrating on his father's speech when he saw his friend sitting opposite him. He realized that his father didn't seem to notice his friend's sudden appearance. Liu Zhiqiang"s voice pulled him from his daze. "Yong'er?"
He turned to face him sluggishly. "Yes, Father."
"I asked you if you would like to see your mother after breakfast. I sure she will be so happy to see the both of us." Liu Zhiqiang repeated patiently, his eyes dimming at the low intellect of his son.
Wang Yong was about to agree when he heard his friend warn him. "Don't go. Don't follow him, Da-ge. You will regret it."
He bent his head in curiosity. "Why?"
Mingli hit the table with his tiny fists in frustration. "I really can't tell you! Please trust me!"
Liu Zhiqiang saw his son murmuring and scratching his neck as he faced the chair opposite him. He sighed softly, touching his son. "Yong'er, who are you talking to?"
The young boy was startled and guilty said. "No one, Father. We should getting going, Mother must be waiting for us." He pretended not to see his friend's anxious expression in front of him.
It took them an hour to arrive to the hospital. Wang Yong never liked the place with such a weird smell and bitter medicine. But when he thought of his mother who would be waiting for him, he bravely walked down the corridor and to his mother's room.
She was asleep, her sleeping expression serene and peaceful. She was without makeup, yet she was still dazzling in her blue hospital gown. His father helped him sit beside his mother saying. "Stay here while I go and speak with the doctor to check up on your mother."
He nodded quietly, his chest puffing in a pledge to watch over his mummy. When the door closed with a low thud, he turned to admire his pretty mother but suddenly her eyes opened sharply.
Her pale thin hands gripped his small wrist, her gaze threatening. "You little brat, tell me have you told your father how I got injured? Tell me!"
Wang Yong cried out in pain, his eyes filled with tears as he struggled to escape from her. "I haven't. I don't even know what you are talking about, Mummy!"
She released him and pushed him away, sending him away on the floor. She sneered coldly. "Hmm! Then make sure you don't! If you do, I will make sure you regret it, you repugnant child!"
Even though he didn't know understand his mother was saying, he knew that from her actions that she was angry at him again. He felt very wronged because he was sure that he didn't do anything to make his mother upset today.
Why didn't she love him the way he loved her?
He was still sobbing when the door opened, revealing his father and the big doctor coming in. Liu Zhiqiang rushed to lift his son, clearly agitated at his physical state. He glared at his wife. "What happened here? Why was Yong'er on the floor?"
Fan Qiuyue started wailing in despair, her demeanour was very pitiful. "Liu Zhiqiang ,my baby! My baby is gone! Why is this happening to me? I didn't even get to see him in this life, its truly too much for me to bear!"
She pointed to Wang Hong, her face twisting in bitterness. "Its him! He was the one who killed my baby! If he had startled me on the balcony, I wouldn't have lost our baby! Liu Zhiqiang, how did we get such bad luck, giving birth to this boy?"
Liu Zhiqiang who had engulfed his wife in a hug secretly wrapped his hand around her neck squeezing it slowly when he heard her talk. He released her and faced the doctor with a devastated expression. "Doctor, will she be able fully recover after this incident?"
The doctor shook his head with a solemn expression. "Unfortunately, her uterus was disfigured during the incident which means it is impossible for her to get pregnant. But the most important thing to do is to observe her as she heals. Please excuse me." The doctor left quickly to avoid the awkward situation, leaving them alone.
Liu Zhiqiang looked at his son with a deadly serene expression, his figure looming over him as he walked towards him. "Is what your mother saying true?"
Wang Yong was frightened into silence, torn between his mother's warning and his father's scary aura. He wanted to talk but for some reason he felt nauseous, his body covered in cold sweat. He took steps backwards until he hit the wall, shaking his head in denial.
Wang Hong screamed when his father landed a slap on his cheek, sending him once again on the cold tiled disinfected floor. He cried loudly holding his cheek, making his mother whisper. "Zhiqiang, get him out of here before someone comes in!"
Liu Zhiqiang dragged him across the floor like a rag, navigating his way around to avoid been seen until he reached the storage room full of cleaning supplies. He pushed the boy inside saying. "You are the worst thing that has ever happened to me, you useless twat! I despise calling you my son. I swear I am going to make you pay!"
Wang Yong struggled as his father locked the door leaving him in a dark room with the light from the moon through the window as his only source of light. He was so scared that he could perceive the stench of urine in the room.
A boy stood in black who sat down beside him hidden in the dark side of the room suddenly said with a shrill voice. "Uh, so gross! You peed on your pants!"
Wang Yong sniffed, his nose full of snot as he trembled. "I didn't mean to. I am very scared, I don't want to stay here!"
The boy snorted, his eyes full of mockery as he looked down at Wang Yong. "The door is locked there is no way you can leave, you dummy!"
Wang Yong looked at the boy hidden in the shadows, forgetting his present predicament. "Why are you staying there?"
The boy replied. "Because I am scarred. You will faint if you see my face."
"What is your name?" Wang Yong was feeling very embarrassed that he had peed on himself in the presence of another boy.
"I am Mao Zhi. And you must be the weakling, Wang Yong."
"I am not a weakling!" Wang Yong's cheeks inflated in anger, making him look very cute instead.
"Yes, you are. Letting your father beat you like that and your mother manipulate you. You are just a weakling!" The boy accused him.
"That's none of your business!" Wang Yong turned away from him, refusing to speak to him again. But he suddenly felt dizzy, remembering that he had forgotten to take the drugs that his father had given him.
Mao Zhi was startled when he saw the boy collapse all of a sudden. He came out of the shadows to shake the boy on the floor before he finally sighed. He sat beside the boy, hugging his knees as he sighed. "Ah, he is completely hopeless. Really weak too. I wonder where his little brother is. But don't worry, I will help you."
He chuckled. "I'll make sure you won't be bullied again!"
