A group of boys and girls stood in the hallway along with the rest of the students, putting their things inside their lockers as they chatted about the stuff that happened during the weekend. Their appearance and demeanour separated them from the rest by caste, with everyone's eyes full of envy and admiration.
Suddenly a student ran into the hallway breathless into one of the boys of the group whispering into his ear before hastily retreating into his class. The boy's eyes widened and he turned to inform the rest of the members. "Hey, let's go to classes. Its getting rowdy here."
"Shh! Give us a moment, I still have to collect this girl's number." His friend beside him whispered.
The poor boy became quiet, his eyes wandering to the entrance of the hall as he waited for his friend to finish his conversation. As minutes passed, he finally couldn't remain silent. "Hey, we have to go. They are coming!"
One of the girls beside him turned along with the rest of the boys after she just finished reapplying her lip gloss. "Who is coming?"
The boy was already restless, desperation and frustration written on his face. " Shàngjí!"
At that moment, three boys walked into the hallway, plunging the chattering noises into cold silence. The rest of the students immediately withdrew from their path, keeping their eyes glued to their lockers, including the girls.
The boy who had just warned his friends snuck a peek at the boys approaching, his body trembling. He felt like almost crying as he whispered. "See, I told you they were coming!"
In their school, it was true that they were the elite of the school, the crème de la crème of the society so it was unbelievable that the three boys approaching them were taken as royalty compared to them!
But who were they?
Of course, it was Wang and his gang!
They were given ordinary lockers, not as expensive as theirs but it was placed at the best spot. They were always considered first and no one dared to offend them, not even the teachers. Even in the cafeteria, both of their tables were reserved only for them but for those boys, no one dared to sit within their table radius!
It was only when Wang and his friends had finished placing their things in their lockers and started walking away that most of the students heaved sighs of relief. The boy elbowed one of his friends. "Yah, go and tell Meng Huan that they have arrived."
The boy who was still absorbed in his mission to woo the girl that he was talking to looked at the direction at which they were going and vehemently refused. "Aren't they in the same class? What if I run into them? Its better we call or text him."
Wang and his friends entered their class, arriving to already polished seats as they ignored the gazes of admiration from the girls surrounding them. Those girls' expressions eventually changed from excitement and reverie to sadness and frustration as they watched them perform their morning ritual.
Fu Pei and Bai Du simply kept the sweets and chocolates but tore the letters and dumped the roses into the trash can. Wang Yong instead threw all the gifts away, glaring at the girls who shriveled under his gaze.
But the boys in the class couldn't help but to give them gazes full of resentment and bitterness. Ever since they were in middle school, they had never received any expensive gifts like that and they were throwing them like trash. It was so infuriating!
Fu Pei went to the teacher's desk to collect some markers for his homework but suddenly he frowned. "Qiu Zexi, come here."
A timid girl that was sitting in the corner of the class watching them suddenly turned her head when she heard her name. When her eyes collided with his, she hastily got up to meet him. "Y-Yes, h-how can I help y-you?"
He lifted his fingers for her to see a trail of dust on his fingertips. "Why is this table so dusty?"
She adjusted her eyeglasses with a trembling heart as her eyes wandered everywhere but the people surrounding her. The whole atmosphere became tense and quiet with everyone waiting to see any drama unfold. She whispered. "T-They refused to c-clean it."
"Who refused to clean it?" Fu Pei tried to curb his impatience at the trembling girl who kept stammering in low tones but he was quickly losing it. He just wanted to finish all the homework he had to do before the teacher arrived. "Talk."
The girl jerked slightly when she heard him growl at her so she quickly pointed at a group of students who kept giving her threatening stares. "These boys."
Bai Du banged his fist on the table, leaving the girls at his left in fright. He bellowed loudly. "Yah, what are you people doing? Why are you looking for trouble?!"
None of the boys dared to talk at first, turning their heads away in silent rebellion as they averted his gaze. But all they did in order to look cool infuriated Bai Du the more. He quickly rolled up his sleeves and stood up. "Am I not talking to you?! What? You don't want to?"
Fu Pei watched restrain Bai Du so he turned to face the boys who were still sitting down, ignoring the ruckus around them. He could already see what was happening and he too wanted to punch somebody. "Yesterday, the girls were the ones who cleaned the table and classroom. Are you people trying to say that you are too superior to clean a mere table?"
"Well since you are also a boy, that means you are eligible to clean the table." Meng Huan who was the one responsible for the boys' rebellious behaviour finally talked directly to Fu Pei. "Besides, you are the vice class president. It should be one of your duties, right?"
All of a sudden, the whole class saw Meng Huan's face being smashed into the table in front of him. The bystanders cleared way from the culprit who pulled his hair back to reveal his bloodied face. Wang Yong smiled at the boys who were horrified at his violent behaviour. "Ladies and gentlemen, always remember my third law: Never annoy me when I am angry. It never ends well."
He finally stood up and released the boy. "You guys never listen to someone unless they go to the extreme. You have less than three minutes to clean this table." He turned to face his friend. "Fu Pei, come back here! I need your help.
I still don't understand this question...."
