Wang Yong woke up in the evening, his eyes opening to the sight of his little brother, Mingli sitting on his bed. He rubbed his eyes. "What are you doing here? Where am I?"
Mingli's eyes were full of tears, his gaze full of regret and remorse as he lifted up his head. "I came to check up on you. How are you doing?"
"I have just a headache, that's all." Wang Yong's eyes roamed around his room before he finally relaxed on the bed. "Why are you crying?"
"I am so sorry I threw a such tantrum, Da-ge. I shouldn't have been so stubborn." Mingli grabbed the bedsheets near his brother, his heart aching at the sight of his brother's bandaged wrist.
Wang Yong looked at his little brother who looked so pitiful and he raised his other hand to touch his brother's hair but his hand stopped an inch from its destination, so he dropped his hand. "I don't like it when we fight, Mingli. Especially if it is because of that woman who abandoned us."
"But she is our mother." Mingli sniffed. "I don't want to see her suffer, even though she deserves it. Revenge is never fulfilling."
"Maybe so." Wang Yong stood up from the bed and stopped before he entered the bathroom. "But what I know is that she won't realize that now unless someone forces her. I will not let her get away with what she did."
"So does that mean that we are good?" Mingli asked his brother.
"Of course we are. We have only each other in this world, baby wuss." Wang Yong smiled at him then he went to the bathroom.
Back in the headquarters of the Black Sign organization, in the night a woman sat down in Kúiwù's office with an elegant and regal aura as she crossed her legs. "Kúiwù, it's has been such a long time since we met like this. It is even more heartbreaking that we are meeting because of a tragedy."
"Another kingmaker is dead. She was the only one who took care of us and defended us here in Chongqing. But now...she is gone." Kúiwù exhaled a few puffs of smoke before he dropped the cigarette he was holding in the ashtray. No one knew how sad he felt about the death of that person.
"At least, she wasn't poisoned or assassinated by the few enemies. It was Mother Earth who took her back to where she belongs to. But that reminds me, I haven't seen any of your godsons since I came here." Cao Xiurong, the owner of the Red Lotus Brothel and the fifth kingmaker of China looked around the room, arching a questioning eyebrow at her friend.
"Don't even remind me about those brats. One of them is always trying to murder his own god brother while the other has abandoned me to go live with his sickly father and whorish mother!" Kúiwù drowned the glass of vodka down his throat and grunted.
"You should be more patient with your godsons, Kúiwù. They are still young and they all have their own ideas." Cao Xiurong crossed her legs, revealing her milky skin which did not escape Kúiwù's eyes.
Even so, he turned his eyes away to face the bright view of the city which disappointed Cao Xiurong making her lower her eyes. Kúiwù asked her. "Is your daughter still outside the room?"
"No, she did not come with me today. I brought Jinhua today to accompany me." Cao Xiurong told him, covering her legs with a part of her red dress. "She must be having fun with the rest of your men."
Kúiwù hesitated for a while before he told her. "Be careful of her, Xiurong. She was seen with Zhilan last week and my men saw them in a deserted place."
"I know she is an ambitious person and I don't trust her either. Zhilan must have made her a spy in order to know how the secrets of my brothel." Cao Xiurong laughed, her melodious voice enchanting Kúiwù making him burn with something he was currently trying to restrain. "Poor woman. I heard that for some reason she is very annoyed with you."
"Zhilan is no match for you, Xiurong. But still you should be wary of her, she is a cunning woman. As for her being annoyed with me, I am guessing it has something to do with my second godson." Kúiwù decided to sit down, hiding behind the shadows the dull lights provided him.
"Oh, Kúiwù. You always look out for my interests and business, it makes me think that you are really not as busy as you claim you are." She stood up and picked up her purse. "Make sure your godchildren don't come to the headquarters tomorrow. The other kingmakers would come here to discuss about what we should do about the death of that person."
She stepped out of the room just to spot a hidden figure behind the corner. She removed a hairpin and threw it in the air, hearing her prey gasp in pain. "Who is there? Come out!"
She saw Jinhua come out holding her cheek, looking wronged. "Mistress, I was waiting for you here. Those boys....they are bullying me!"
Cao Xiurong glanced at her, taking note of her loose hair and incomplete zipping at the side of her dress, snorting. "If you had earned your respect like the way the rest of the girls did, maybe they will treat you better."
Jinhua became even more wronged when she realized that her mistress was not planning to stand up for her. "But... it's not my fault. They just don't like me."
Cao Xiurong ignored her pout and closed the door of Kúiwù's office, blocking her from trying to spy into the room. "Let's go. We have other things to do."
They were about to leave when a woman dressed in black blocked them. She was accompanied by a group of girls dressed in scanty and seductive dresses unlike the classy and enchanting dresses the girls of Red Lotus Brothel wore. The woman dressed in black smiled when she saw Cao Xiurong. "Well, well, well, who do we have here? Cao Xiurong, long time no see."
Cao Xiurong eyes her with a cold stare. "What are you doing here, Madame Zhilan?"
