Innkeeper's Request

As soon as the door clicked closed behind us, Lucy began to talk.

"So you don't have money to pay, but that won't be a problem. You see, you may just be the solution to a problem I have been having. My daughter, Mildred, has had her eyes on this boy who lives in town, and he has had his eyes on her too. It's obvious that they like each other, but neither of them will make a move on the other. So here is my deal. Get them together within the next week, and I will allow you to stay here for the duration of an entire month. If you fail, I won't charge you as long as you really tried, so don't worry. So then, what do you say?"

She wants me to get her daughter and this boy in town together. The boy is probably Adam, considering how he was looking through the window. If that is the case, I think I might be able to do something. Besides, I can tell she is being honest, so I have no reason to decline.

"Okay then, you have a deal. Who is the boy your daughter likes?"

"Great, I'm glad to hear your on board. So, his name is Adam. He is the chiefs son, has dirty blonde hair, and has a lot of freckles. He should be easy to find."

Called it! Also, did she just say he was the chiefs son? Good for him. Anyways, I should probably get started right away if I only have a week to get them to start dating. I guess I should get moving.

"Okay then, if that is all, I'm going to get started."

"Ah, a hard worker I see. Well then, I won't take up any more of your time. Good luck sweetie!"

With that, I exited the small but comfortable room, making my way to the stairs. From there, I walked out of the inn.

Before I left for the inn, I saw Adam walking towards one of the fields, probably to work. I should look there first.

I begin swiftly making my way to the field. I didn't run at full speed of course, as that would be crazy, but I did speed walk over to the fields. Sadly, a house blocked the view of the fields, so I couldn't just look over and see if he was there.

After only a few moments, I had gotten past the house and I could see the fields. Adam stood with a tool in his hand, swinging down over and over at the ground. It was only a few minutes ago that he left for the field, but he had already worked up a sweat. A cool breeze started blowing in, and as it did, Adam took a quick break and turned to face the breeze head on. As the breeze flew past him, it also cooled him off, and right after, he went back to work.

He must be a hard worker to have worked up a sweat like that so fast. That, or he is just incredibly weak and this is hard work for him. Or maybe it is rather hot out and I just don't notice. I honestly have no way of knowing if it's the third option.

Well, I guess I should go and say hi.

I start walking towards him, of course, at a speed walk, and he notices me before to long. Stopping just before him, I begin to talk.

"I know this is a weird question even though we just met, but are you single?"

If he says yes and asks me out, he isn't worth anyone's time, but if he says yes but that he isn't interested, I may be able to work something out.

"Yes I am, but I won't lie to you, I do have my eyes set on someone else."

Perfect, I can work with that! A small smile appears on my face, but with my inhuman speed I make it disappear before he could possibly notice it.

"Well, would you mind if I asked who this person is?"

His face began to flush a little red as he contemplated whether to tell a stranger who he liked. In the end though, he did choose to trust me.

"Mildred."

He only mumbled her name once, but even admitting his crush to someone else embarrassed him a lot. He had turned his face down, trying to hide just how hard he was blushing right now. I kind of feel bad for putting him on the spot.

"Mildred? Wouldn't that be the innkeepers daughter?"

I acted confused, but I already knew everything he was telling me. But he didn't know that I knew. That was why I was going so far. If he knew this whole thing was a setup from the start, there was a real possibility he could back out, so I had to act.

Instead of answering my question with words, he only nodded his head once, his face still turned downwards to hide his embarrassment. It's clear to me that he has a strong crush on her, which means this just might work out.

"Well, since you're still single, that means the two of you aren't dating. Because you helped me out when I was lost, why don't you let me help you win her over?"
