Test

I already decided that I wouldn't use magic, considering what happens every time people find out how powerful I am, so that's off the table. I could try and take it sneakily, but that just seems like to much of a hassle. So, I could just fight them and take it. If I did, they wouldn't tell anyone because they wouldn't want to admit they lost to a girl.

Okay then, now that I know what I'm going to do, let's do it!

"Hey, that pendant isn't yours. Give it back."

I spoke, my voice loud and dominant. I made sure they heard me. All of them turned to look and see who had challenged them, and then started laughing.

"Haha! Who does this girl think she is?" One of the goonies said. "If you think you can take all of us on, go right on ahead, but don't be upset when we get all touchy once you lose."

This caused the group to laugh even more, except for the guy with the pendant. He just had a dark look on his face as he kept his face tilted down.

"You seem confident for a girl. What's your name?"

The guy spoke up, not bothering to look at me.

"My name doesn't matter. All I want is the pendant that you stole."

Man, that sounded cool! I have to give myself some points for that one.

"Well that's fine. My name is Blake. Pleasure to meet you. Now then, you said you wanted this pendant? Well, I can't just give it to you. After all, I had planned on selling it for some money. If you want it, you'll have to take it."

"Okay then. I'll do just that."

In the next moment, I had zoomed right up to Blake, standing just in front of his face. A moment after I appeared, a gust of wind blew past. Shocked by my sudden appearance, the other boys unconsciously stepped backwards, their mouths hanging open.

Blake's eyes widened for just a moment before I had brought him down to the ground. As he was pinned beneath my knee, I yanked the pendant from his neck. After that, I got off of him and walked away.

"Wait!"

Blake called out just before I left, his eyes wide as he looked up at me from the ground.

"How? How did you do that?"

"That's a secret."

With that, I walked away, trying to look as cool as possible. The cooler I look, the less likely they are to try and fight me, right? Anyways, before long, I arrived back at Kelly's Cafe and went inside. Both Riley and Kelly were seated at a table while talking to each other. Kelly looked up at me as I came in.

"I'm guessing it didn't go well?"

"Oh, it went great. Here's your pendant."

I then tossed it to Kelly, whose eyes were wide as she caught it.

"Huh? How did you do it? Normally when I give people this test, they come back to me in failure, but you actually succeeded. How?"

"Wait, test?"

"Oh yeah, this is a test I usually give people. Normally, I would have gotten my pendant myself tonight, but you happened to be here, so I had you do it to see if you were a hard worker with guts. It seems like I was wrong about you. I assumed it would have taken you multiple tries before you gave up, but you did it within only an hour of being requested."

"I can understand a test, but why would you need someone with guts?"

"Because of where this cafe is. You do know that this is a bad part of town, right?"

"Okay, one last thing. Why do you just have someone with your pendant for a test?"

"I don't. That guy just happened to take it before you came here. Normally for a test, I would just give you a ridiculously hard task, but they happened to take my pendant, so I wanted you to retrieve it instead. Plus, it was a good judge of character. If you sold it instead of bringing it to me, I could've gotten it back easily and I would never let you stay here."

I shook my head, which caused Kelly to sigh, but she didn't seem to care too much. I then turned to Riley, who had been drinking at the table the whole time.

"Did you know about this Riley?"

"Yes, I did. I brought you here because you seemed capable. I could tell because you had this look in your eyes."

Riley spoke on his usual girlish sounding voice, sipping from his drink when he finished. Well, I guess that's it then.

"So, may I stay here?"

"Yep. You passed my test, so you can stay here, but don't expect it to be easy. I will work you to the bone. Understand?"

"Yes, I understand."

"Good. Now then, you look like a homeless person. Why don't you take a bath?"

"Ahh, yes please!"

Excitedly, I followed Kelly. She led me to the back room where the kitchen was, then through another door in the side of the kitchen. Through that door was what I would describe as an apartment. Small room with two beds and a bathroom off to the side. In the bathroom, there was a small bath that I could bathe in. There was even warm water in it already!

"Here. Strip and bathe. I will bring you some spare clothes."

"Thank you."

She closed the door behind her as I started to strip. Once all of my clothes had come off, I slowly let myself sink into the small tub. It was very tight, but I fit.

Ah, this is nice. I then began to scrub my skin clean, being sure to get every speck of dirt that I could. Before long, my skin was clean and I felt refreshed.

There was a knock on the door, and then Kelly came in. She walked over to a stool that sat next to the bath tub and placed a pile of clothes on it.

"Here, this is all I could find that would probably fit you. I also got you a dry towel to dry off with. I want you out within the next five minutes."

"Okay, thank you."

With that, Kelly left the room, leaving me by myself.

Well, since she wants me out in five minutes, I guess I should started getting out now. It was hard getting out of the warm and comfortable tub, but I pushed through. Once I was out, I grabbed the towel that Kelly had left me and quickly dried myself off as best I could. I then put on the clothes she had given me. After that, I left the bathroom.

"Finally, you're out. Be sure to get a good sleep tonight, because we're getting up nice and early tomorrow."
