Across the Sea

When I awoke, I was confused for only a moment before I remembered how I had ended up on the forest floor the night before. My heart still ached as much as it did when I screamed with all my might, but I lost my will to scream anymore. I wasted a night that could be the difference between the end of this world or its continuance.

I picked myself up and off of the grass and continued running. I repeated this same thing for the next week. I ran the entire day and through the night, only sleeping once every two days. Thanks to my incredible powers, I never felt the least bit tired, so my travels were rather easy. After an entire week of running nonstop, however, I reached a barrier.

"The ocean..."

I stood on the sandy beach in the dead of night. My eyes saw all the way to the horizon where the sea passed on. The sight of beautiful stars shined in the sky and reflected off of the water. All in all, it was truly breathtaking. I would stop and gaze of I wasn't in a rush.

Could I have passed the ancient curse site? No, I'm sure I didn't. I imagine there would have been something to signify that I had reached the curse site.

I zoomed out my map as far as I could see, and examined everything. There were many cities, towns, and villages on the map, but nothing that seemed related to the curse. Surely I don't have to cross the seas...

How? If I remember correctly, the many different races split up amongst the continents surrounding this world. Since there is no mention of the other races in any history books, that means the other continents haven't been discovered yet. If that is the case, does that mean boats might not exist in this world? Come to think of it, I've never heard them being mentioned by anyone since I first arrived in this world. On the map, there also dosen't appear to be any port cities of any kind.

I turned my gaze from the sandy beach I stood on out towards the sea that went far beyond the horizon. What am I supposed to do now?

Am I supposed to just run across the sea then? I know I could using my water magic to manipulate the temperature and allow me to walk on ice, but there is no telling what could happen on the sea!

A horrendous storm, or getting swallowed by some large sea creature, or even being swallowed up by a wave while sleeping!

Why am I even thinking about this though? The fate of the world literally rests in my hands! I can't afford to be afraid, not with this much responsibility. The sea always did scare me, but I need to be brave.

Follow the cross in the stars.

I slowly took one step after another until I reached the very edge of the seas reach. Then, after a few moments of hesitation, I stepped into the water, freezing it as I did. Just like that, I had a solid walkway of truly frozen ice.

My steps were slow at first as I tried to keep my nerves in check as I walked on the sea. Slowly, however, I managed to pick up my speed, one step after another, and after a few minutes, I was sprinting across the ocean like there was nothing to it.

I ran and ran, and ran some more, until eventually, I had to sleep. I'm not going to take any chances at all while I'm sleeping. I froze the water as cold as I could and as far as I could. My icy ocean extended far past the horizon, but it made me feel safe enough to risk sleeping in the middle of the ocean.

I slept throughout the night as cozy as could be after I had made sure I was safe, and the next morning, I continued on as I had been before, following the ocean northward in the direction of the cross.

Today was another day just like the ones before as I continued my sprint across the sea, when there was a sudden commotion In the water beneath my ice. Whatever is causing it is huge, making the water around me shake and stir around its presence.

Could it be a shark? No, a shark couldn't cause this much force. A whale maybe?

Just then, I could feel the creature rapidly swimming up to the surface of the water. I only had moments to create a high pillar of ice extending from the floor of the sea to high up in the air as the creature crashed through my ice path that I had carved across the sea.

It was a whale all right, but not a normal one. No, it was a raging whale. Its immense strength caused it to shoot up higher than even my ice pillar had carried me. As it was in the air, it angled it's body so that its mouth was facing me as it fell from the sky to try and swallow me as it fell.

Hell no.

Before it even had a chance to swallow me, I stabbed it through and through with exactly one hundred ice spears as thick as my arm. Suffice to say, it was dead when it hit the water. After that, I continued on my relatively normal journey.

What I had hoped would take days to cross the sea turned out to be weeks before I had finally crossed the ocean all the way to a new continent.

As I stood on the beaches of unexplored lands, I couldn't help but feel a little excited as I took my first step forward in a land untouched by human eyes.
