[Congratulations! You have met the conditions for the job class: Beginner White Candidate (Chess King)]
[Do you accept the job class? Y/N]
The books I read in the library didn't say much about the Chess King.
I will decide after I get more information about the Chess King, and after I get home. The day already started turning dark.
I walked calmly, with my hands in my shorts' pockets.
I came to a stop then turned to look at the alley at my right.
I could see papers and other types of waste on the ground and an old man that wore a green ragged hood. The old man is sitting on the ground and resting on a wall with his gaze on the ground in front of him; him being like that made me think he was dead.
"Chose thy path wisely, else, another shall choose for thee. Let not thy ways of old determine thy means, for thou art a peculiar one among the unique."
The old man is the one that spoke those strange words. I didn't understand what he said but decided not to pry the meaning out of him and just walked away like nothing happened.
I stopped abruptly because I felt something strange coming from that alley, but everything was normal (disregarding all that waste) at the very least, apart from that old man.
I'll keep his words at heart and decipher it later.
[Rewards from Quest: Seek knowledge, received]
'I call upon Garmi the Death God of Cursed Magic.' I remember Garmi said when I have enough knowledge about this world he'll tell me about dad and... me.
'...' I didn't receive any response.
'I call upon Garmi--'
'I heard you the first time kid! And stop calling me like that, I'm in your head.' Garmi answered this time around.
'Good day to you too. I need you to answer my questions. First, what are you and what is cursed magic. Second, who was my dad and why does apparently no one know anything useful about Merlin. Third, what is the Chess King and this so-called Omega Eye. And lastly... What am I?' I bombarded him with all the questions that filled my mind currently in one breath.
'You're moving faster than your shadows kid.' He didn't even answer any of my questions and continued,
'Like I said before, I am the Death God of Cursed magic. Cursed magic is simply magic on a greater scale that comes for a price. I am the one that decides the price according to the request of the individual or group. They can choose whether they want a curse or a cost.' Garmi finished.
I presume this is all he can tell me about cursed magic, so I won't push too hard. Likely because I now understand his 'joke' from the first time I met him.
'How about the other que--'
'Don't rush me, kid! And I don't know anything about your dad. The only thing I know is that he sealed your memories, which in turn, sealed your powers.'
"What!" I couldn't help but be dumbfounded. Those seals were placed on me... by dad?
'Let me ask you this, do you remember reading your father's books?'
'Uhm, yeah, but not his secret files though.'
'Apparently, when you started snooping around his study the first thing you found was his secret files, or more like his device. I think he called it a 'game console'. So stuff happened, you took it to a pocket dimension you created and when your dad found you, you fused it to your body, that's why you have that system. You could use the powers your father spent over 500 years trying learning. At least that's what he told me.'
Garmi just poured a whole bucket of information on my head, I couldn't even ask any question before Garmi continued.
'So, that game thing is part of you now and since you don't remember how it was it's trying to build itself from what you know and see. The Omega Eye was created by you, your father don't know how you did it but about 400 years ago he made something similar.'
I tried stopping Garmi, so he could explain what he just said, but he said he hates talking too much and when he is I should just shut the hell up.
'The Outer Seal was locking your system from showing, but your father unlocked it by sending you a tiny bit of his power signature and your system analysed it and broke the seal. The Middle Seal locks the information you're not allowed to know until you either find out by yourself or the individual tells you, it's the reason everything thing is showing '(locked)'. And lastly, the Inner Seal seals your memories. So, the only way to unlock them is to either get hold of things your father made using his powers or recreate his power signature.'
Garmi exhaled in my head like he just ran a marathon.
'The Chess King is the leader of an elite force of warriors and as the name implies he selects, chooses and sets his pieces however he or she likes. And there's a catch: the piece or role given to an individual boosts their stats and depending on the power of the King and the role given.'
Garmi said he will never do this again and any other information I need, I should pay for it, which I will definitely never do now that I know his agenda.
'Once again Garmi, thank you.' I expressed my gratitude.
'I'm going to sleep.' Garmi just made me realize, and put the last piece of the puzzle in my thesis.
'You're not in my head... Are you?'
'...'
He didn't answer, but I already know the truth.
Come to think of it, after all he said nothing still explains why I can see Elise's full name.

I have finally arrived in front of my new house and... It's a few minutes after seven. The day is already dark.
Before I receive torture, at least let me clear out some things.

'Constantine. I'm coming for you.'
I felt happiness in the form of satisfaction that I can actually improve and definitely get my revenge, until.
"Danton? Is that you?"
Mom had her eyes closed and her head slightly tilted as she smiled. If demons existed in this world I'm sure that's what they'll look like.
"M-Mom, I-I can explain! I had to escort a girl home." Man that came out wrongly.
"A girl you say." She started walking forward... slowly.
I looked behind her and saw Ben looking through the window, he used his left hand to slit his throat, implying that I an done for.
I looked up to the night sky, gazing at the moon that shone ever bright and the beautiful little stars. I slowly closed my eyes, accepting my fate.
***
My whole body is currently covered in bruises. Mom beat the living daylight out of me.
*Sob*
I am still crying because the pain just isn't going. And moreover,
"Sorry, dear. But you should know better than to make me angry." Mom said, using her hand to pat my head and brush my hair as I rested on her lap crying.
Well, definitely I wouldn't cry even though the pain is ten times more, but I noticed she was scared dad's death changed me too much, so the only answer is to act my age for the mean time.
I'm surprised on how lightly she took dad's death. At least I'm happy she isn't dwelling on it too much, or maybe she's just being strong and putting up a facade for me.
"Drink the soup, it has enough nutrients that will make your wounds will heal faster." Mom said in her ever caring tone. If anyone saw her right now they wouldn't even believe she has the devil within her.
Soon after, I started falling asleep and because my movement is impaired and imbalanced, mom directed me to my room.
I climbed to my bed and fell right to sleep.
"...ton!"
I felt someone shake me, so I slowly opened my eyes.
"Danton! Wake up."
"Huh? Ben? What do you want?" I spoke with the sleep still in my eyes.
"I am ready to tell you about my past."
As Ben finished, I sprung up like I was never sleeping at all.
