Ruling Figures

After the King Arthur's reign, no king came after. The humans are ruled by guilds and military powerhouse families with cities being governed by 'Rulers' chosen by the people, which all submit to the Overlord.

The Elves are ruled by the Elf King and cities are governed by high-elf families. The Elf King is chosen by an entity called The Watcher and presumed to be the strongest elf.

The Dwarves have chiefs that govern their countries and are chosen by the people because of popularity gained through inventions. The Dwarf King is also chosen by The Watcher.

The Giants only care about strength and nothing more, that means their chiefs are determined by their military ranks which is determined by their strength; so they practically don't need The Watcher to choose their strongest since their whole existence is based off of strength. Their strength can be expressed through duels with one another.

The Orcs are also like the Giants, but instead of strength it's war or battle. The more battles they win the more popular they are, the stronger the opponent the more popular the victor. They're based off military ranks and the highest position is the Warlord. The Generals, which are second to the Warlord; they govern their cities with strength, force and fear. The Warlord is chosen by a battle among the Generals that want to claim the position. Their battles only ends when one yields or dies.

The Ape-men are more like pacifists and on the more religious scale. They are governed by Sages who still submit to the strongest Ape-man, titled the Great Sage. The Great Sage isn't chosen by The Watcher, and are given the leisure to chose their own successor.

Currently, there are three figures that stand at the pinnacle of existence, namely: The Overlord, The Beastlord and The Warlord.

The Overlord is the reason why balance is maintained among the humans, elves, dwarves and giants. The Overlord is chosen by the Watcher from the strongest group of people in Wricontien, the Kings. There are seven major kings and several minor kings. The Kings are figures that are influential and can wreak havoc because of their titles and their battle prowess, they have followers and subordinates, but they alone can wipe a city off the map.

The seven major kings are the Elf King, Giant King, Dwarf King, the Great Sage, the Dragon King and the Chess King. These seven are called the Major Kings because the type of strength needed to wield any one of those titles can't be compared to any other minor king. The major kings of old times were way more but got sieved out to only the strongest after King Arthur's disappearance.

Minor Kings are just people that own an army of some sort or has the power to clear a whole city alone, examples are, the Grail Bearer, the Leaders of the Exorcist, Hunter, and Explorers' Guild; the Ice Queen (clan head of the snow elves), the Fairy Queen and the Beast Kings. It is said that there are more minor kings, but some don't publicize their existence.

There are some factions that don't follow the rule of the world to submit to the lords. Some of them are the Druids, the Spiritualists, the Alchemists' Guild, the Inventors' Guild and some notorious terrorists' groups.

I dug deeper into the Druids because it's only their names that aren't self-explanatory.

The Druids are just a group of people from different races, species, magic types, and mage classes that come together to seek for more profound knowledge; believing they are in pursuit of a greater being and do all that is in their might to get results. The first ever druid is said to be Merlin and at that time they (his group of people from diverse areas) only sought knowledge and power, not some religious holiness.

The Beastlord controls all the types of beasts and even some low-ranked Orcs and Ape-men with lower intelligence. After the last Beastlord was presumed dead, The Watcher still hasn't chosen a new one; and some Beast Kings claim to be the Beastlord from time to time.

The Warlord controls the ever battle hungry Orcs, which can be seen as unreasonable to be placed at the level of Overlord and Beastlord; but if closely observed, the Orcs are the strongest and their population rivals that of the five other races combined.

As I read everything about the lords, I realized how important and strong my dad was; and how unlikely it is that he lost to those mysterious people.

'Mysterious people?'

I tried to think of the most mysterious people I've read about and only one answer popped up:

'The Druids!'

I read more books about them and learned that the Druids are divided into factions that occasionally exchange information by either beating it out of each other or just peacefully exchanging them. The Druids are divided into four: the Druids of the North, the Druids of the East, the Druids of the West, and lastly, the Druids of the South. The factions have different beliefs and goals from time to time depending on their leader.

That's all I can summarize from the books about Druids and obviously, the information isn't enough. But I am fine with it, I don't expect the latest news and knowledge to be written in books; and let's not talk about the facts that there are possibilities that things are being hidden by the writers.

***

It's already a quarter-past five and Ben went home with Zeus and Hades saying 'The dogs are hungry'; like I don't know he was just talking about himself. The only problem here is...

"Ooh! Danton you should come see this thing about ancient runes called live or active spells drawn as tattoos on the body!" Elise is still here.

She's sitting directly across the reading table, and we're facing each other.

The scrawny old lady gave Elise the key to the library and said I should be a gentleman and Elise will fall for me while giggling; she got on my nerves once again and once again I cursed my luck for always driving me to old annoying geezers, like my dad.

"Aren't you supposed to be heading home by now?" I asked Elise who is so engrossed in reading the book she just told me about.

"I can stay how long I want to." She replied me without looking up to see my face.

"Won't your parents get worried?" I thought of what mom will do to me if I came back home when the day is already dark; and I must say it' wasn't a pleasant sight.

"... I don't know." I noticed her change in expression before she answered, so I might as well act like the twelve-year-old I am and pry harder.

"Why?"

"Because they're dead!" She snapped. I didn't expect that answer, so I couldn't help but curse myself for prying too hard.

"W-Well I'm so sorry for prying too hard. I should have known it wasn't an appropriate question for you." I simply apologized.

"..." She kept silent, although I could see she wanted to say something.

"If you tell me I can hel--"

"You can't! You don't know anything about me! I'm tired of being pitied by people like you! You don't know what it feels like knowing your parents died at the hands of mercenaries hired by their own relation just because they're from different races!"

She paused then bent her head down and slowly started sobbing.

"With a brother who's not always there because he took up the family name at a young age, working so hard just to protect me and get revenge for our parents! And at the end I'm still that weak little girl that needs help from..." She couldn't finish her words as tears rolled down her cheeks.

I could hear her frequent sobs and I remembered how I was when I saw dad die in front of me. I know the best words to tell her.

"Yes. You are weak," I kept a stoic expression on my face as she raised her head to meet my eyes.

"And VERY for the matter-of-fact." I added.

"So why don't you just get stronger?" She looked at me with eyes of disbelief.

"If you want to grow stronger..." I moved closer to her face and wiped her tears,

"You have to start by looking stronger." I smiled meekly, and I felt like I just acted like that old skunk.

I stood up and dragged her hand and said, "Let's go. I'll take you back home. And tomorrow, I'll teach you how to grow stronger."

Elise stood up, she wiped the remaining tears and said,

"Ok!"

She spoke with enough confidence, and we left the library.

[Rewards will be received shortly after]

I didn't mind the notification sound as I continued walking, holding Elise with my right hand.

I could feel her gaze on me, so I turned back and told her to point the way to her house.

***

We finally got to her house and man! Is it huge.

Throughout the journey Elise didn't speak, she only pointed the way to her house.

I stood in front of her house and she ran into her house as fast as her legs could take her.

'She didn't even tell me the way back.'

I turned around to start heading back home and heard Elise shout from inside her house,

"T-Thank you! Danton. I'll definitely try my best to grow stronger b-by your side."

I didn't even look back. I just smiled and started my journey back home.

And then, suddenly,
