Chapter 224 Mockery

*shuak* *shuak*

A sickening sound resounded within the empty streets that were once bustling with activity.

The dagger dug inside the flesh of a thing.

It was difficult to properly descrive the thing other than using the terms 'disgusting mass of flesh'.

The howls of the thing echoed.

"A,a,aaaah..."

Sometimes it was a single voice and sometimes the mixture of dozens of voices that cried in pain and despair as they clung in the hope of being released from simply existing as monsters.

Family, colleagues, friends and lovers were swept inside the madness that was happening. They fought together or fought against each other, either way they were, in a way, fighthing each other.

The massive spell that hit the stronghold did not discriminate between children, elderly or strong ones, people simply started to amalgamate with each other's flesh, bones and organs and become masses of disgusting flesh.

"U-uak!"

Dozens of pair of arms grabbed the limbs of the man that was stabbing it.

"S-stop! Stopstopstoppppp-"

*crunch* *creak*

The arms pulled and pulled the arms and legs in different directions. The face of the man was contorcing in excruciating pain as its muscles are being stretched to their limit.

*crack*

The body couldn't bear it anymore and blood gushed out as the torso of the man fell in the ground while the arms of the thing was still holding his limbs.

"A,a,aaaah." It cried in pain and despair as they dropped the limbs to the ground and leaving in search for another victim, as the thing moved away it completely trampled an artificial blue flower in the ground. Some of the voices wailed or cried, maybe some of those voices knew the man they just mangled.

There was no faith or hope for them as it was and will be squashed.

Once again, chaos engulfed the already chaotic Intris. The spell was from the hostile planet that was Karma, a spell that too had its costs to them. A sacrilege to both to the living and the deceased where the casters have to sacrifice the corpses of thousands and thousands of living human beings in order to mock life and death itself.

These things cannot even properly 'walk' but instead they drag their bodies, the multiple limbs attached to it helps its movements making it rather quick contrary to its size and appearance. They are attracted by life and nothing more. They do not care for their survival, they relentlessly pursue other living beings around them.

These things swarmed the stronghold where there are people that still were able to avoid becoming such abomination. Then, why not run away? Why fight against these things? It is simple really since leaving the stronghold is impossible.

"You say that we will be trapped here for a whole week?"

"That's right and that is because they hijacked the barrier around the stronghold causing anyone to be unable to leave or enter but a week is too much."

"Right?"

"Yeah, by that time the remaining survivors will be then dead and those things will be solely focused on us."

"...that's not I was talking about but whatever you say Deva. Still, this is really not the place I want to sleep, let's pick a room, seal it and sleep, okay?"

Sitting on top of one of the tallest buildings of the strongholds there were seven women chatting among themselves in tranquility despite the disturbing scenery around them, in fact, the contrast between the atmosphere around the stronghold and that between the seven women made everything more so bizzare and unnatural.

They have been watching from the beginning to the very present where they just turned their attention to finding a room comfortable enough to accomodate seven people, they watched the process of people merging with each other and the slaughter these things caused as time passed.

It wasn't obviously a pleasant sight but that was because it shouldn't cause anything other than disgust and dread.

The three day they passed inside the stronghold was short but also enjoyable as they got to meet new people, they interacted with them and even got to know some of them however to just up to a superficial level.

It was indeed saddening that the people they just got to know would suffer a fate like that but it was a fate that wouldn't have changed even if they did not arrive inside the stronghold.

They, however, had the power to stop such thing from the beginning but they didn't do it and instead observed how the survivors handled the situation. The little problems and delays that kept repeating and appearing days before brought the current grim sight; the barrier shouldn't have been that easy to hijack and atleast should have given the Mages a warning and the delays of delivering several important items made so that the Guardians and Mages couldn't build a proper line of defense, there was currently a group that was still standing on its own but it will soon crumble when all the things scattered around the stronghold will start to swarm towards them.

A week later, a stronghold was completely destroyed and devoid of any survivor other than the traces of several huge monsters that seemed to have perished due to starvation.
