The goblins march in closer until I see them in view. The one that stood out is a goblin who is taller than every goblin, but not as big as the hobgoblin I faced earlier.
The goblins marched through the forest and reached our base where it is a wooden house.
I stand alone with my Halberd in hand and inside the fence, letting them know that they're not just gonna waltz in here in front of me.
The goblins stopped at the fence and stood in front of it. The black bearded goblin comes forth with a spear in hand out of regular steel.
"Are you the one who resides in this place?" the bearded goblin said.
"Yes I am. I am Kain Void and I currently live here." I said, introducing myself. "I am also a human."
"I can see that you are, young Kain. I am Friis, the goblin chieftain." Friis introduced himself. "Do you know why we are here?"
"Is it to welcome me for coming to Dystoark?" I said in obvious sarcasm.
"One of our scouts has found out about the orange light flashing in the distance. It must be the fabled Legendary halberd you are holding, correct?" Friis asked, pointing at my halberd.
"No, this weapon is of Epic rarity." I said. I scanned Friis' spear and his stats.
===========================
Friis ain't too far behind in rank when it came to the Hobgoblin I slayed earlier back in Noltia.
"An Epic rarity halberd, interesting. But back to the question, do you know where the legendary item is?" Friis said.
I waved my hand for a gesture of a certain person and the door opens. Hyoran walks out of the door and closes behind her. Hyoran walks to stand beside me with a sword I made wrapped in cloth.
"Does this" Friis thought
She then unravels it and showed them the newly created Turbulent Wave. Friis and the other goblins became awestruck.
We walked closer, but still remained wary of them since we first met the goblins in Dystoark.
"Such impeccable craftsmanship...the profound luster it gives." Friis gasped and he notices the warping luster on the blade and the crystal on the pommel.
"Is that blade made of Magic Steel?" Friis said. "And that crystal..."
"That's an A Rank Water Magic Crystal. Carved and polished to perfection." I said. Friis' breath trembled in awe of the weapon and fell to his knees.
The goblins rush to him, but Friis stops them.
"So this is the legendary rarity sword...truly remarkable." Friis said, admiring.
"It's not a legendary, Friis. It's a Mythic weapon." I corrected him. Friis sputtered and his goblin allies shared the same reaction.
"Mythic? I do not believe you." Friis protested as he regained composure. "My scouts saw that orange light!"
A thump was heard. Friis looked to his left to see a female goblin on her knees.
"It's true...it really is a Mythic rarity weapon." said the female goblin.
The other goblins gasped and began to bicker, Friis walked to the female goblin and knelt down.
"Are you sure?" Friis said.
"Yes, I am sure." the goblin nodded.
"What is the name of the weapon?" Friis asked.
"T-Turbulent Wave." she replied.
Friis stood up and turned to us and bowed.
"We ask of you, if you help us of our crisis, we will be forever in your debt." Friis begged. The goblins were shocked that Friis would be bowing his head to someone that is a complete outsider to their tribe.
"Chief Friis, are you sure about this?" one of the goblins asked out of concern.
"We barely have the strength to defend ourselves from the monsters that invade us. If another monster invasion happen to invade us while we're weak, we have no future." Friis said.
Since they came so far to ask for help, it would be right to help. Besides, having just beasts, undeads, a Hellkin that couldn't talk can only do so much. Arex can talk, but I wanna meet others besides Arex.
This will be the start of creating a community.
"Sure, we will help you." I said. Friis widened his mouth and eyes as their hope was not lost.
"We thank you, young Kain!" Friis exclaimed in appreciation, "Now come this way, for we will lead you to our village." Friis gestured to lead us.
We began walking to the goblin village along with Friis and his group of goblins.
"So, young Kain, how long have you and your Lycanian friend have been living in Dystoark?" Friis said.
"We just came here. We went through the Telgrin Mountains to get there and through Veldiar Meadows." I said.
"I see, it took you at least 2 days to get here on horse and another through the meadows." Friis said, but Hyoran and I made it within a few hours.
"How long have you been here, Friis?" I asked.
"From the moment I was born till now...35 years. It was mostly peaceful and we had bountiful harvests. Until that fateful day, monsters began attacking." Friis said.
"Monsters? What kind? If it's a insect swarm, then wide area spells works best." I said.
"No, worse...hordes of varying monsters began invading. First, the Gray Wolves led by a Silver Wolf attacked us at night." Friis said.
Gray Wolves led by a Silver Wolf? That doesn't make any sense. Gray and Silver Wolves only help each other when both of their kind are in a existential threat. These goblins are at least G rank and High Goblins are no lower than E+ and they're far from being a existential threat.
"That's...strange, they fight alongside if their existence is in danger." I said.
"Next, a swarm of Spark Jackets attacked us while I was away from my village for hunting. I managed to repel them with this spear." Friis explained further.
Spark Jackets only attack those who are close to their hive. Why would they go out of their way to attack someone, especially if they're far from their own hive?
"I get the gist of your situation, Friis." I said.
"You do? If so, we beg of you to help us find a solution! Multiple monster invasions have been wearing down our defenses and made gathering food difficult! Dozens of our tribesmen, tribeswomen, and children have died from starvation more than the monsters...and worst of all..." Friis began choking up.
"We've been killing each other in order to have food in our bellies! Even their own families!" Friis yelled as tears began running down across his sunken cheeks. The other goblins began crying as well, indicating they ate their own kin to survive.
Hyoran tugged at my arm and showed a sad expression with tears welling up in her eyes. I already am gonna help Friis out of the situation.
"Don't worry, we'll make sure your village is saved." I said, patting his shoulder.
"Thank you...thank you dearly!" Friis sobbed.
Friis got up and wiped his tears until there were none. Friis and the goblins recovered from their breakdown.
"Forgive me, a leader shouldn't show signs of weakness, but we are desperate. Death itself is not what scares us, but dying only to be forgotten...extinct." Friis said as he clutches his spear tightly.
"To seek help from outsiders, and children no less? Have you lost your reasoning?" said a voice in a serious tone with a hint of pity.
We looked for the voice and see a group of Orcs walking towards us with heavy axes, clubs, and maces in hand out of iron, wood, and stone. The Orcs have sunken cheeks, hunched postures, and some of their hands have been showing their skeletons.
The one who stands in front is a 6 foot tall orc with long brown hair, yellowish beige skin and riddled with scars around the face and arms. The orc wears a black bear pelt where the head of a bear goes over his head and the rest drapes down to his back.
"Desperate times needs desperate measures, Zherk. We are at our wits end." Friis retorted.
"If having children like them are desperate measures, then we are good as dead." Zherk retaliated. Zherk walked towards us and looked down at us. "We do not need those who have yet to drink of their mother's milk."
Oh boy...it's gotta be one of the cliches where some annoyingly prideful character comes in trying so hard to stand out, claiming to be strong where in the end, they're small fries to the MC. But I ain't here for that so I'm gonna give him a good impression.
Or so I plan to...
Hyoran began growling, baring her fangs and claws at Zherk. I remember in the game when her parents happened to get insulted, she rarely gives them a chance to retract their words and pounces on them without remorse. It seems that little trait still remained.
But I can't let her rage ruin it before we start. Not just after we arrived, after all.
