Chapter 16 d Happy Reunion

With little choice, Pater bolted to the short refrigerator in the corner of the room and dug out a handful of condensed blood donations. Once the first bag was opened, Pater held it in between Firmin’s lips and pushed it flat. Condensed blood was normally revolting to the appetite, but if only Firmin had been in his right mind he would’ve said so. The blood flooded into his mouth and dripped down his chin and, although revolting, he lavished in it, quickly forming his rabid animal-like smile that was unique to him. His hand opened and pulled away from the doctor’s arm to squash the bag in between his fists and to suck it clean. “Another,” he demanded, dropping the plastic bag onto the floor.

Jim’s arm pulled up over his chest and he cried, “I need a defibrillator; I can’t correct the heartbeat without it!”
