Although Iggy had quite a few reasons why not to return, he nodded and together they walked back to the elevators. They got in, Baine pressed the MC button, and when the doors reopened, Pater met them at the threshold.
“Waiting to go up?” Baine teased him.
“He’s faster than a hare,” Pater grumbled.
Baine exhaled, looked over at Iggy, and then nodded in agreement. He warmed his tone so that it was friendly. “Yep. He can be. You should’ve seen him in the early days. It was like catching a firework. Once in the hands, it explodes, you know? So, where to?”
Pater waved his arm toward the direction of the examination room. As they came to, Firmin and Dr. George were standing in the doorway together, talking. “I’m sorry Firmin,” she apologized for the thousandth time, “we don’t have anything new to help you.”
“Isn’t there something you’re working on that will get rid of this curse?”
“I’m sorry, there’s not.”
