Chapter 26 d Foe to Friend

Derson didn’t bother greeting him. He tossed the bag onto the mattress next to the unopened one from the previous night, and stepped backwards until Iggy and he were both out of the room, again. He looked over at Iggy, who gazed through the window at the dark figure still spying on him from the corner. “That’s Simoun,” Derson said. “He’s far from being rehabilitated.”

Through the window Iggy watched Simoun cross the room. Simoun planted himself on the other side of the door where he could stare right back at them through the window. His smile was crooked and ill intentioned, yet Iggy stood there still as if he didn’t know any better.

“Any sane person wouldn’t want anything to do with the guy,” Derson commented. “Aren’t you at least a little bit scared?”

Iggy smiled. “No, definitely not.” He looked over at Derson. “These are the rehab rooms that Firmin mentioned yesterday.” He glanced around at the other closed doors. “Which one was yours?”
