30: Truth Be Told

They stopped to get ice-cream and once again Donna opted to stay in the car.

She started to sweat, but couldn’t turn on the air conditioning without the keys. So she opened her door and felt the heat hit her from outside. She went on to put her feet on the ground, stand up, close the door and walk the short distance from the car to the shop. Then Donna blacked out.

Greg saw her crumple to the concrete and sprinted out of the shop, forgetting the ice cream altogether.

Donna had fallen on her side and she was deathly still.

“Donna? Donna wake up!” he shook her shoulder urgently. “Come on, sweetheart!”

“Is she okay- I mean has she got any other conditions?”

He turned to a woman who had rushed out after him. “No. I hope she didn’t hurt the baby. Could you please open my car door for me. It’s over there,” he said, stooping to lift his wife.

“Of course.”

As soon as he laid her against the leather seats, she stirred. One hand went instinctively to her stomach. “Gregory?”
