32: Broke A Water Glass

One evening, Donna was watching Greg draw a house.

His brow was drawn in concentration and as the windows and doors gained character, Donna felt she had to use the bathroom.

“Going to bed?” he asked her, not looking up.

“Not yet. I’m coming back.”

“Ok.”

It was about ten minutes before she returned.

Standing before his work table, she spoke to him, hoping to interrupt his focused activity.

His response was, “That’s ok, we can buy another one. Did you hurt yourself?” he asked glancing up very briefly before going right back to work.

“Greg, you’re not listening to me!”

“Yes, I am!” he said, rendering as he did so.

“Then tell me,” she said, taking away his pencils, “what did I say?”

He sighed and looked up. “You said you broke a water glass. And I said it’s ok, babe.” He reached for a pencil.

Donna smiled and shook her head slowly.

“No? Ok, what did you say th-?” he went pale. “You- oh my God. Broke. Your water broke?! You said your water broke, didn’t you?”
