The potato man's proposal

I laugh constantly in the hallway between my house and the big house because Sally who carries me, keeps tickling me.

Sally is strict about some things but she takes good care of me. I believe that as far back as I can remember, even back when I was getting up at night to go to the chamber pot, she was there, with me.

Sally is a elder sister that I love to mess with. She's like one of those big sisters who scolds you all the time, but every night gives you a big bear hug when she covers your little feet.

A elder sister who covers my little feet. Yes, that's who Sally is.

As I approach the large living room, I hear a male voice talking about something complicated that I don't understand.

A second male voice insists that everyone is asking about me. I understand absolutely nothing of what he is saying because outside of school and our house, I know very few people, so it's ridiculous. Besides teddy bear lovers, who would want to meet me?

I'm a little scared so, I play the koala.

I cling to Sally's neck and she kisses me on the forehead, telling me that these gentlemen did not come to eat my pretty little nose.

Even though she says that, adults with big voices wanting to meet me, it's never happened to me, so, shuddering of my feet, I cling to her neck even more.

"Madam, the young miss has arrived but, it seems she is a little worried. Young miss, stop playing koala and open your eyes, your mommy is here."

I am not too reassured but as soon as I see my lovely Mommy my fear disappears and I jump out of Sally's arms.

"Mommy, I have three new words that my teachers have add to my collection. Say; would you like to see them? Say my lovely Mommy, you will want to see them my words, won't you?"

My pretty mommy smiles, then laughs when I describe to her how I've expanded my collection again.

The idiot doesn't like my collection but mommy loves to read my words. She laughs every night as she reads the silly things I did at school but pretends to lecture me in between two stomach cramps.

"Angel, you'll bring your pretty words up to me later. These gentlemen want to discuss something with you, so stop jumping on the coffee table and sit down. Not on my lap in front of our guests, honey. Ok, on my lap if you wish."

3 suits look at me nonstop.

2 black suits and 1 dark blue suit, smile at me and wave.

Pupupu, I feel like a baby monkey in a cage to whom, visitors throw peanuts.

I am right in front of you and my eyes are very good, silly.

Glurp, seeing their smiles of suits, suddenly I have goosebumps. Brrr, it's unpleasant to see suits acting like normal people.

The blue suit who is sitting in the center of the black suits stands up.

Without even asking me if he has the right, he grabs my little hand and he shakes it like the gentlemen do.

Grrr, trame, trame, trame.

Hey, hand thief, give it back.

"She's as beautiful as she is in the ad, no, even more beautiful. Lara Eve, the three of us have come from Los Angeles to see you. I'm Jess Park, one of the general managers of the CBS television network. This is Charles Clark, Program Director and this is my secretary."

Why is he telling me all this? Does he want me to write his biography? Anyway, if I'm not a little polite, Mommy will be sad, so even though they look like old raccoons, I'll make an effort.

"Nice to meet you, suuuitss, I'm Lara Eve. My lovely Mommy, Lara has been working hard at school and now she is a little hungry."

Director Clark can't take his eyes off the gorgeous woman and when he hears her sweet speak, he once again falls under her spell.

"Ursula, please prepare something quick and nutritious to eat for my baby, thank you."

Although this little girl is indeed very beautiful, she is only 6 years old. The 3 men much prefer her beautiful, "lovely Mommy" that they can't help but contemplate. Which by the way, does not escape this smart little girl.

"I've seen you, ugly suits. You stop looking at my mommy or I'll bite you."

These three bad suits are really just like all the other men, they all look at my pretty Mommy.

Oooh, he feels silly and blushes the blue suit? You're right Mister who stinks, this man has no taste. Yes, the color of his cheeks is very mismatched with the color of his clothes.

"Ah yes, arhem, let's get back to Lara. Tell me, did you like acting in the Gap ad?"

What a silly question.

I ask him if he likes wearing blue suits?

"I loved it but it was exhausting. I had to do the same thing a lot of times but my Mommy said I was the cutest little girl on TV. Why are you asking me this silly question? Do you know an ugly old dog who wants to meet me?"

One of the black suit, forces a smile like the one I get when Sally wants to make me eat my potatoes.

"Calm down Mister who stinks, did you see this suit, bring a potato dish? I meant that suit has a hypocritical weasel smile."

The potato man scratches his nose and slips a note to his secretary who hands him a document.

Oooh, it's like school. They give each other little love notes.

"Lara, we would like you to play in a movie and before that it would be great if you would agree to participate in a TV show. Your parents say that the choice is yours. Your father added that it would be a very good experience for you. What do you think?

Me in a movie? A ad lasts at least... a lot of hours, so it will bevery, very, long. I'll be at least thirty years old when I finally finish their movie and if it sucks, my star career will suffer. Plus, for all those years away from me, my Mommy will be all alone.

"My lovely Mommy, since you'll be all alone if I leave and I don't want to grow old in a shed, then, I'm staying here."

Mommy looks at me seriously this time. It is really very rare to see her like this so I listen carefully to what she says.

"Lara my angel, you don't always have to think about my well-being. As for me, what your daddy says is true; I have to learn to detach myself a little from my little angel or I'll end up stopping you from leading your life, sweetheart. I want you to do what you want because it would make me sad if you held back for me."

My little mommy...

She says this and I know she's right but....

Yes Mister who stinks, even if they don't seem very honest to me, let's hear what these men have to say.

"What's the movie about? Will there be a old ugly dog in it? What city does the movie take place in? Assuming I say yes, when does it start? Will Maï be able to come and watch me play? Who will be the other star? Do you have a role for a plush guest?"

🌹ڰۣڿڰۣڿஇღԑ̮̑ঙღڰۣڿڰۣڿஇ🌹

Director Clark is stunned by the speed with which she uttered this series of questions.

This little girl never stops moving. Her eyes are full of mischief and she doesn't hesitate to yell at them when they look at her mom. Even more annoying is that when he talks to her, she is either talking to her mom or to her messy teddy bear.

According to him, except for her beautiful little face and cute little voice, this little girl is not an angel at all but, a little demon that will be hard to deal with.

He is aware that he will probably only be able to keep the attention of this agitated little girl for about thirty seconds so, taking a deep breath, he launches a series of answers as quickly as his mouth allows.

"It's a movie about a man who has been doing something stupid and runs away with his daughter to avoid getting arrested by the police. In this briefcase you will find the script and other documents related to the movie. Regarding your second question, I am not sure if there is a old dog in the movie...

... This movie is a road movie. It will take place in different places; mainly in California and Azizona. As you so rightly ask, assuming you accept, you will have to come to Los Angeles very quickly because the director couldn't find his ideal girl until he saw you in the Gap commercial. The shoot is scheduled to start on Friday of next week and the TV show will be live this Tuesday...

... Of course Lara, if you want to invite your friend to watch you during the shoot, you can. Sorry I'm laughing but I'm not mocking, but I'm afraid there's no room for a teddy bear in this kind of movie. Finally, the other star, apart from you of course, will be an actor you might know. He has played in many great movies and if you join the cast, you will play his daughter. It's Mel Gibson; not bad, right? So Lara, do you want to do it? Pfiou..."

I look at my Mommy who this time seems to want to let me go far away from her.

No old ugly dog, no Maï, no teddy bear guest and most importantly, no lovely Mommy.

I am a little sad, concerning my lovely Mommy who doesn't ask me to stay but, I also want very much to get out of my house around which there is nothing, except my school.

"Although I don't like you very much, potato man, if Mommy is sure she'll be okay when I'm a million miles away from her, then I'll come."
