Chapter 52: Aftermath

“Sorry.”

Cal rubbed a hand down his face. “I need a beer.” He left Trey and Mallory. She wasn’t sure if she should look at him.

“Thanks.”

Trey pulled her to him. “We need to talk and you need to show me a grave, but for now I’m glad you’re alive.”

Cal woke early that Monday morning.

He had a date with destiny.

And his daughter. Or at least a phone call since he didn’t know where she lived.

He dialed the number. Spoke to the woman. Got the information. Then hung up.

His grin split his face.

He didn’t even need to call.

He’d just drive right over there.

Right now.

At the same time, Mallory was just hanging up the phone when someone knocked on her door.

She had the name of her father.

Her father.

He’d been so close all along. Her smile split her face when she opened the door for Cal.

“Hey.”

He looked like he didn’t know what to do.

She laughed and pulled him into a hug.

“We have so much to talk about.”

Cal murmured. “Yes, we do.”
