Kalann couldn't sleep. Dark thoughts were swimming in his mind, and his head was throbbing with a wet ache. Sighing, he sat up, taking in his surroundings. The four of them had made camp in the forest, a few hours' walk away from Druid's Hollow. They were all sleeping on the bare ground, having lost many of their supplies when the mine collapsed. It wasn't ideal, but it was bearable.
Kalann turned his gaze to the sky, watching the dim light of the stars. Pain lanced through him as he remembered the race from the caves, the mysterious force that brought the monster down, and the horrible feeling of truth that Sparks was gone.
He didn't wonder about the strange light that had saved him once again from certain destruction. Whatever it was, it was insignificant compared to Sparks' death.
He got to his feet, stretching. If he wasn't going to get back to sleep, he might as well take a walk. Maybe it would take his mind off things.
