Chapter 27: Kaston's Ambush

Laura's warning gave Kalann just enough time to ready his sword before the Urts were upon him. A mass of warriors literally leaped from the top of the outcropping, tumbling down to the path in a green tide. Kalann's nerves tightened. Adrenaline coursed through him like a drug. His blade rose high, and he charged to meet the oncoming attack

He fell into a rhythm instantly, hacking and slashing at the green-skinned men that rushed him. Yet these Urts were many, and he felt himself forced back against the mountains. He hit the stone wall with a grunt, slicing frantically to stave off death. Then Evartan was next to him, carving out a swath in their ranks. Kalann flashed a nod his direction, the only thanks he had time for, and heaved himself forward, fighting to reach his friends.
