Chapter 32: Rising Storm

Someone was shaking Kalann by the shoulder. He mumbled something incoherent and opened his eyes.

Laura was bending over him, her face obscured by darkness. "It's nighttime."

Groaning, Kalann propped himself up on his elbows. The boat rocked gently under him. "How close do you think we are?" he asked.

"Very," Laura said. "I saw a seagull while the sun was setting. Land can't be too far away."

Kalann nodded. "Get some sleep. We'll need to be rested when we reach Shindar."

She nodded in return, already leaning back against the side of the boat. Within seconds, her eyes closed and she lay motionless.
