Having already heard the night wagons outside during her secret trip to the kitchen, Vekaya could remember a little bit about where she had heard them. Would it be enough to just see and hear whatever they said? Would she have to follow them or sneak aboard? How dangerous really was any of this? Did they even come every night, or was it only certain nights? As she went to bed, her mind was awash with worries. This was nothing new, she thought, for the House of Civius in general. After all, there were so many children who cried themselves to sleep every night. No one knew where they were. No one was coming to get them. The last worry that she had, softly calling to her from the recesses of her brain, only made itself known when she wondered again, how dangerous really was any of this?
No one knew where she was. No one would come looking for her. This Captain Taron might, but by then, might it be too late? Anything that could happen to her would surely have happened already.
