Chapter 18: An Eye and a Hand

Vekaya reasoned, as she joined the throng of children on their journey down the stone steps to the dining hall for breakfast, that she did not need to wait until dark to investigate the mystery of those sacks. So strongly did she suspect what was in the bags, that she had half of a mind to go looking for Captain Taron without investigating. She strode off of the staircase and into the hallway, pondering. Would all of this be enough? The symbol on the canvas bags had to be something representing the Order of Civius. An eye and a hand? Of course, it had to be. Every Pillar that they read involved him somehow watching or manipulating human affairs. Vekaya would just have to find out what kind of person Captain Taron was. Would he hold up his end of their bargain? Would he know who she was? Did she even want him to?
