The General took me to the Heliconia River where we walked down a line of abundant heliconias while being smothered by toads and dragonflies.

My slippers were already mud-caked when he lead me while going down.

It was good that I’ve changed from my day dress to a casual attire, patterned shorts and a plain T-shirt because I wouldn’t dare cause a headache with the laundry maids if I’ve stained those dresses, considering that I still feel like a guest living in the General’s mansion until I married him.

According to what I’ve heard from my Geography tutors, this river was a significant part of how Ransang came to be when the founders, who were refuges from war-torn Northern Asian territories, usually convened for their meetings that founded the first government.
