Chapter 47: Escape
I stifled my sobs when the servants entered my room to bring my lunch.
The four female servants laid my dinner on top of a small rectangular table. It was a meal made for a Queen with nachos for appetizer, a whole roasted chicken complete with its side decorations of slices tomatoes and cucumber, Salisbury steak, and a piece of strawberry cake. And also eggs benedict!
It’s probably Marcial who ensured my comforts, but I wouldn’t yield to his madness.
Two of them were bringing a traditional Gionite wedding gown. It was made up of two fabrics in olive color, a sheer lace over satin. The sheer lace has been sequined with tiny emerald stones all over it. It was beautiful, but I shuddered with the reminder that I will be marrying a scheming man who will kill my father and bring me the head of the man I truly loved.
It was odd to have the Gionite servants sit just a few inches in front of me. Back home at the General’s mansion, they usually just stand at a corner.
