Savvas Souliotakis came to see his family on Tuesday. Tenderly, he kissed his old mother who exclaimed and fussed over him to her heart's content. Toula brought a plateful of spaghetti and he ate it quickly, hungry after his drive down from Heraklion. He was in a good humour and told them that Martin was doing very well and enjoying the work immensely. He didn't tell them that Martin had been out for dinner with Dr Debra Hammond. Martin had asked him not to mention it, unsure how Emily would take it.
'David won't give a damn,' he said, 'but Emily still hankers after her mother. They were so close, more like sisters.'
'He sends his love,' Savvas told Emily, 'and will be here at the weekend. He hopes you are both having a good time.'
