Chapter 53: Going home to England

Martin, Emily and David boarded the plane that was to take them home to England. They had said their goodbyes to everyone with promises of a return visit sometime. Yet the Kelsos all felt that they might never return to a place where so much tragedy had occurred. At least, not for a very long time. Martin had left Barnaby to negotiate with the Greek Government about sending a team into the caves on Chrysonissos. He wanted nothing to do with it. The mere thought of the danger Emily had been in still made him break out in a cold sweat.

Emily was still in a state of shock over the terrible death of Manolis. Now that everything was over, she seemed unable to stop trembling and weeping. She hardly spoke at first when they had taken her back to the villa at Heraklion for a while. Debra had been marvellous with her. She had simply taken the young girl in her arms and silently expressed her sympathy and understanding and Emily had sobbed on her shoulder for a long time.
