Beyond the Black Sands

What happens when we die? No one knows really. Here is my take on it, in a different way.

Wandering a barren landscape are souls, moving slowly towards a distant beacon. Reaching constantly moving black sand dunes, ready to swallow any weak souls who can't make it across, to a massive city beyond with a large ebony castle in the center towering with a light at the top. Everyone there is fighting to survive, to become the one that leads, the one that rules over the lands. This is about a particular soul, and their struggle to get to a new life, maybe even a ruler.
