Chapter Six

“What’s happening inside, Lucifer? I just want to know if w-we can track him and then we can go to him and finish this!”

Lucifer put his hands on each side of her shoulder. “You need to calm down first, Miss Etel. I should assist you back to the house where you would be safe.” He guided his hands towards the exit of the precinct but Etelvina just stared at it.

But he did not let her stubbornness get over him. He took her hand and was about to drag her out of the building when the detectives came out of the interrogation room. Detective Judas heaved a sigh.

“He won’t talk. But I will not stop until I get him to confess, Madam Etel. For now, we need you safe. Let Lucifer take you home,” said Detective Judas.

Being the hard-headed she is, Etelvina shook her head. “I will stay here and I’ll be the one who will talk to that asshole!” The Detectives are much stronger than her, that’s why when she tried to run inside the room, Detective Judas easily lifted her up and passed her to Lucifer.

She tried to get out of his grasp but the two men pining over her, she was easily brought in Lucifer's car. Quietly, she sat on the backseat. Feeling her heart exploding with how fast it beat at the moment. Both with anger and nervousness.

Knowing that Tino is still out and could still find her and her family made her feel more anxious. She wants to rush this whole thing so she could escape this dark hole of her life. She doesn’t want to live like this; in fear. Etelvina wants to be with her aunt, eating the Sinigang she cooked but that’s impossible because of the position they’re in right now.

With a frustrated sigh, she let herself feel the soft cushion of the backseat of the car. This is unbelievable. She thought the investigation would be a lot easier because her hitman is notorious but she thought wrong.

“Are you okay, Miss Etel?” Lucifer asked.

She shook her head. “If your supposed killer is still on the loose, do you think you would be okay?”

He looked away. “I’m sorry. I didn't mean to be insensitive.”

“It’s okay, just get me home.”

Lucifer shrugged and maneuvered their way back to Detective Judas’s secured house.

“THERE are two police officers guarding the house outside and the backyard. It will not be easy for you to escape so don’t try.” She smirked, only two? Easy-peasy.

Etelvina nodded at Lucifer. “You got it.”

She stepped out of the car and made her way through the entrance of the Detective’s house. She’ll be spending her time brainstorming and finding out where to escape this another cell. Lucifer left the car, she wasn’t aware that Detective Judas had been tailing them using Lucifer’s motorcycle until he pulled up by the entrance.

Etelvina continued hiding by the gate as she listened to their conversation.

“We cracked him, you should come with us,” said Detective Judas.

She failed to hear Lucifer’s answer but she’s betting he nodded at the Detective. Etelvina ducked and slowly made her way out. She thought while the two guys were busy chatting, she could snuck out and try to get inside the backseat of the car without them noticing her.

She’s not sure but she has an idea on where Tino might be. The man who attacked the Detective was holding a baseball bat. Not far from the building where they got the lead was a field where she remembered there were six men playing.

She may not be a hundred percent sure but there’s still a possibility that somewhere in that place they can find Tino. And she’s going to find it out. Alone.

Etelvina jumped a little when Lucifer moved and strolled towards the Detective’s position. As the two were busy exchanging keys, she slowly opened the door and slid herself in the backseat without being detected.

She carefully blew a breath as she lay there as flat as possible.

It didn’t take an hour before she heard the door closing and the engine starting. Her heart began to race, she wanted to back out. If Detective Judas ever finds out she snuck, the police might pull the protection that covered her family and she cannot let that happen. Not until Tino is behind the bars.

Etelvina tried to take a peek at the window without being seen in the rear mirror. She was right, they’re on the way to the field. There must have been a hidden place in there that she failed to see.

After a moment, the car stopped. Etelvina had been waiting for Detective Judas to leave the car but minutes had passed and nothing happened. Out of curiosity, she tried to pop her head out to look. Startling, she accidentally banged her forehead by the seat.

Who wouldn’t startle when she caught the Detective staring at her as if waiting for her to come out. She massaged her head while wincing in pain.

“I know you were there the whole time,” he explained.

Etelvina blew a loud breath. “Then why did you continue?”

“Lucifer helped you.”

“I don’t think so.” She sat up straight and adjusted her body to the backseat.

“He did, he distracted me so you would have time to hide yourself at the backseat. I just don’t know why.”

She shrugged. She’s also clueless.

“Looks like I don’t have a choice but bring you in if you are this stubborn and you also have an accomplice.” Detective Judas leaned back and folded his arms across his chest. “Come with us, but you still need to wear these.” He took out a duffel bag that was sitting on the passenger seat.

Her shoulder went slope as she saw it was the bulletproof vest and the hard cap again. “I’m sorry but you need to wear it as per our agreement.”

“Okay.”

“Come out when you’re done. I’ll just talk to him.” Pertaining to Lucifer who was just fixing his messy dark colored hair after removing his helmet.

She did not waste any time and stepped out of the car as soon as she’s dressed. Tension filled the air as the two were in her sight. It was as if they were having a silent conversation. Conversing using only their eyes. It was Detective Judas who pulled away.

He opened the trunk of his car and took out a baton. He handed it to her that she cluelessly accepted.

“Are you ready?”

She looked at the wide field and blew a breath. “Yeah.”

“No, you’re not,” Lucifer intervened. He went and opened the car door and took out the bulletproof vest. Walking back towards her direction, he stood in front of her and stretched her shirt revealing the clothes she stuffed inside to make it look like a bulletproof vest.

Detective Judas tried hard not to burst into laughter. Etelvina just watched as the clothes she hid flopped on the ground.

“Wear this.” He handed her the bulletproof vest.

“But it’s-”

He cut her off and said, “No buts. Do it if you still want in.”

She can’t do anything but obey his orders.
