'Trees. Green. Why are trees green? Why not blue? Oh, the sky is blue. Why are trees not purple then? Why green? Man, that bird is so pretty. Why can birds fly and we can't? That's just unfair. I call partiality. Movement would be so much more easier if we had wings. I'm hungry-'
"Ms. Yagami?" The brunette turned to face the teacher.
"Could you please translate the next line into English please."
"Sure." The girl stood up, held the book in one of her hand and slipped the other one into one of her skirt pockets.
"Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the road less traveled by. But I, being poor, have only my dreams. I have spread my dreams under your feet. Tread softly because you tread on my dreams." The girl finished swiftly and took her seat. (A/N : Yes, I know they're from two different poems but meh.)
"I would highly appreciate it if you would keep your eyes in the class, young lady. You can look at the birds later on your walk home." The teacher spoke sternly yet with a smile.
The girl completely ignored the teacher and proceeded to look outside. It wasn't like the teacher would catch her anyway, not once again. She never repeats her mistakes.
Class went by way too slowly for the girl's liking. As soon as the class ended she packed her things up and exited her school building. She reached the school gates and leaned against a wall, seemingly waiting for someone. She closed her eyes and let her mind relax after a long school day. She had to go to tuition too after all.
"Hey, you actually waited." The girl heard a male voice speak and she opened her eyes to look at the owner.
"Why does it always take you so long?" The girl speaks and she pushes herself off of the wall and stands next to the boy.
"Also, can you please tell your fangirls that I won't be doing anything at all to you? It's starting to annoy me." The girl speaks as she looks at the crowd of girls behind them giving her death stares. The boy merely chuckles as they start to make their way home.
"Sayu has practice?" The boy asks.
"Yup."
They come to a stop at a gate as a train passes by. A news being broadcasted live caught both of their attention as they turn to look at the building on which the news was being cast.
The news was of a serial killer who had gotten his hands on yet another young woman. Just the same way as before, raped and killed. The police could still not find him and he's roaming scot free in the city. The boy sighs and the girl just shook her head in disappointment. Yes, she knew how to get a hold of this man but she can't do anything. Why? Because she didn't want to illegally involve herself in anything. Besides, the professionals knew of her, they'll contact her if they needed help.
'This world is rotten. Day in and day out with the same old news of someone dying or someone being killed.'
"Are you going to tuitions with me today?" The boy asks and the girl shrugs.
"Come on, Aya."
"I didn't even say anything. Obviously I'll go." Aya responds.
"Well, if you don't say anything then I'll have no choice but to assume."
"Or you could just think that I didn't have the energy to open my mouth. There, another option." The girl smirks as she looks at the guy who is now rendered speechless.
"You got me."
"I always do."
Both Aya and the guy made their way home again and when they reached, they announced their presence like always.
"Oh, Light, Aya! Welcome back home, sweeties." Sachiko, their mother, welcomes them home.
"Hi mom." Aya hugs her mother and then proceeds to head up to her room.
"You guys are going tonight right?" Sachiko asks.
"Yes mom." Light answers for both him and his sister.
"Let me know if you guys want anything!" Both Light and Aya hear their mom yell after which they shut their room doors.
Aya, the second daughter and the middle child of the Yagami family. She's 16 years of age and just a year younger than her brother. She skipped a year because she was smart enough to be in the same grade as her brother. What people don't know is that she is actually a detective. Their dad knows. All the professional investigators know of her presence but they don't know that is it her. A normal high school student.
Light, the oldest child of the Yagami household. Mysterious to the world but an open book to read for Aya. They have a special bond because of their stunningly similar humor. No one ever knows what he's thinking, except Aya of course.
Sayu, the youngest child of the Yagami household at 15 years of age. She's never been too close with her other two siblings but she does care about them. She gets straight A's in all her classes but also is a people pleaser. She always wants to fit in with the crowd of people that she's hanging out with.
"Light, I need some help." Aya knocks on his room door.
'Why is it locked?'
"C-Coming."
'Why is he stuttering?'
One disadvantage of being a detective is that Aya questions everyone and everything. To say that she's paranoid wouldn't be correct. She likes to be prepared for everything and anything. There's no such thing as too much knowledge after all.
"Yes, Aya?" Light opens the door and let's Aya in.
"I'm having trouble with this problem. Can you help?" Aya asks as she makes herself comfortable on her brother's desk chair.
"Sure." Light takes a look at the question and smiles.
"It's really easy. You just have to apply the third formula." Light explains the solution to his sister who then let's out a smile when she understands the question.
"Oh, thank you so much." Aya thanks her brothers and gets up.
"A-Anytime."
'There was the stutter again.'
Aya couldn't help but narrow her eyes at the weird behavior of her brother. When she turned to look back at her brother, he looked so lost. His eyes were widened and it was like he was trying to find something or trying to come up with a reason or excuse for something.
"Are you okay?" Aya finally asked, not being familiar with the weird behavior at all.
"Yes. Completely okay." Light looked up at his sister and gave her a small nod.
'How is she onto me already? I need to be very careful around her.'
"Okay. See you in.." Aya trailed off as she took a look at her watch.
"about an hour." Aya just smiled and took her leave.
Something was definitely up with her brother but she didn't want to pry into his business. Aya went back to her room and finished the rest of her homework before her tuition.
Light and Aya always went to together to tuitions and always returned home together too. Today was not an exception either. They had small talk as they walked to the tuition. Aya always thought the classes were boring but she always paid attention. She didn't want to fall back on anything. She had to remain at the top of her class.
The tuitions went by faster than Aya had thought and the weird behavior of Light had also disappeared. She didn't mind it though. She just shrugged it off as weird teenage mood swings. She had them too sometimes.
Both the siblings just went back home and into their rooms. Aya plopped down on her bed and tried to relax a little before mom called her for dinner. When she was about to fall asleep..
"Aya! Light! Dinner's ready!" Sachiko shouted up the stairs.
Aya heaved a sigh and changed her clothes before heading downstairs. Light and Sachiko were already seated and were waiting for Aya. Before she joined them at the table, she noticed Sayu run into the room and switch the TV on in a hurry.
"You'll fall. Calm down." Aya spoke with a chuckle as she took a seat at the table.
"Oh my God! How could I forget the movie!!?" Sayu vigorously searched through the channels until she stopped at a movie which had just begun.
"Oh my god, yes!! I'm so glad I didn't miss too much of it. My heart would have been broken otherwise." Sayu exclaimed, causing all the three at the table to laugh.
"Dad's not joining us?" Light asked.
"Nope. He'll be late as usual." Sachiko replied.
Dinner was casual. Sayu was fangirling so hard at the movie at how handsome the actor was that it made all the members laugh at her actions. After dinner, Aya noticed Light grab a bag of potato chips.
"You just had dinner and now a bag of potato chips? That is so not good for your handsome face." Sayu commented.
"It's a late night snack for studying." Light simply replied and went to his room after bidding everyone a good night.
"You're staying up late too?" Sachiko asks Aya as they both finish doing the dishes together.
"Nope. Too tired today. I'm going straight to bed. Tomorrow is a Saturday after all." Aya smiles as she wipes her hands on the towel.
"Good night darling." Sachiko places a small kiss on Aya's forehead, making her smile.
"Sweet dreams."
"Night, sis." Sayu yells without looking away from the TV.
"Night, Sayu." Aya heads up to her room as she chuckles at Sayu's behavior.
Aya just plops down on her bed and gets comfortable. She totally lets sleep take over her after she puts her phone for charging on her bed side table.
'Oh my love, where were you my dear sleep?!'

'Who???!!!!'
Aya groans as she picks her phone to look at the caller ID.
Unknown number
She furrows her eyebrows as she picks up the call and waits for the person to speak. No sound at all. Aya's patience reduces and she clicks her tongue before speaking.
"Hello?"
"Hey."
"Geez, Max. Why you gotta call so late at night?"
"I've got a case for ya."
