'The human whose name is written in this notebook shall die.'
'Its for real!'
'Any human who's used a death note can neither go to hell or heaven for eternity.'
'I want the world to know of my existence. That there's someone out there passing righteous judgment on the wicked. And I.. I will become the God of this new world!'
Light wrote down in his death note in the middle of class. When asked to translate the sentences into English from Japanese, he does so flawlessly and takes his seat with ease. People didn't care about class. Even if he didn't, he couldn't slack off. He needed to maintain his rank.
When the bell rang, all the students got up and started to disperse. Ryuk peeked up and looked at Light's notebook before standing up and stretching. "I thought it'd never end. How do you do this everyday? It's so boring here. Hey, Light!" He spoke and rolled his shoulders to get rid of the stiffness.
His attention snapped to the boy who was already walking away and he rushed to follow him. "Where you going?" There wasn't any response form the other. "Hey, Light? Are you listening to me?" This ticked the brunette off and he sighed. "Don't talk to me. Unlike you people can still hear and see me when I talk out loud." He spoke softly and quietly.
"Well, aren't you boring." Ryuk scoffed as he flew behind Light. He watched as Light declined to hang out with a few of his friends. "You don't have anything to do. Aren't you just going to go home and hang out in your room as usual?" Ryuk asked and Light smirked.
"What are you talking about? Of course I have things to do. Yes, something very important."
Light sat at his desk as he started to write down on his death note again. He watched the daily news of murderers as he wrote down their names. Ryuk layed down on his bed lazily, eating the apple he loved so much. "Hey, Light. I'm talking to you." He spoke as he gulped down the apple.
"What is it?"
"Why are you working so hard?"
"I can't afford to waste any time. I have a very small window to write names in this notebook. I only have from when I get home from school until I go to bed. I still need to get sleep so that I can maintain my average and stay at the top of my class. And then there's Aya. She's very observant. I've got to stay extra careful around her. Obviously, I can't be sleeping in class." He spoke as he gripped the pencil hard.
"Then there's studying at home and also at tutions. I'll be with Aya so there's no way I can write names then. I cannot let this affect my mental health and performance either. If I'm serious about trying to create an ideal world that's free from evil then I need to make the most of my time."
"Huh? Light?"
He looked up and towards the door when he heard the female voice. 'Aya.'
"What's up?" Light asked. "Oh uh, I just needed to talk to you about something. That's about it." He placed the notebook in his drawer and walked to the door, opening it. "Sure. Come in." Aya smiled as she walked in and sat down at his desk chair like usual. Ryuk sat on the bed with his legs crossed as he watched the female.
"So?"
"I'd be careful if I were you. If anyone else touches the notebook that you've got hidden in that drawer then they'll be able to see me too." Ryuk spoke which made Lights heart skip a beat.
'What? He waited till now to mention that important detail?! Damn, Shinigami...'
"Yeah. There's a trip coming up remember? At the end of the year. Mom said I can't really go if you're not going and I really want to go." Aya spoke with a smile. "I won't be going. It's the end of the year and we'll have our entrance exams too. You shouldn't either as a matter of fact. You know, Aya. We have to study-" Aya cut him off immediately. "Oh come on, Light. Pretty please? With a cherry on top?" Aya asked, trying to act cute. "Don't." Light said and she stopped with a small pout.
"Okay fine."
Aya jumped up and smiled. She hugged him. "Thank you so much!! I'll go tell mom." She smiled and waved to him before leaving the room and going down to her mother to tell her the news.
ICPO
"There have been 52 deaths that we're aware of and that's just in the past week. Every single one of them involved a heart attack. They were all criminals who were being held in prison or were wanted by the police for various crimes. And I think it's safe to say that there are other criminal's whose deaths are unaccounted for."
"In which case the death toll could be well over 100."
Whispers spread out in the meeting room. Soichiro Yagami sat at his desk as he listened to the case proceedings.
"At any rate, these were criminals who were probably facing execution sooner or later. I think we should-"
"Why does it matter if it was a criminal or not?! Last time I checked murder was still murder."
"It's still too early to consider these as homicides."
"Then how did all these people have heart attacks at the exact same time?! That's not coincidence. It's murder!"
"You think it's possible to kill all these different people at the same time?"
"We're treating this as an elaborate murder which has been carried out by a large organization."
"If it is a large organization, I'm sure I'm not alone in suspecting the FBI or the CIA."
"I dare you to say that again!!"
"Now, now, this is not the time to be joking around. We need to confirm that these indeed are homicides and not coincidences."
"How? The autopsy show that all of these victims died of a sudden heart attack. Investigating a series of heart attacks is pointless. I don't see what else we can learn."
"Absolutely. At least if these people had been shot or stabbed, we'd have soemthing to go on."
"If that's the case then we have no choice but to bring in L."
