Chapter 27
It's been a couple of days or to be more exact, it's been a week since their meeting with Douglas, Crocodile and Baby 5. In the past week the relationship between Baby 5 and Yuuto 3 disciple has been closer than ever since she was such a loveable child.
She was especially close with Buggy, since somehow she was trick to listen with everything he said to her with his exaggerated way of talk.
Right now they are currently staying at some uninhabited island not far from their destination. The reason they staying here is because, on their usual sparing season, Yuuto got a call from someone and he need a matter to attend somewhere.
It's been 3 days and Yuuto will be gone everyday for about 4-5 hours before coming back. His three disciple has no problem with it whatsoever, but there is one person who can't take to be unaccompanied by her Daddy for too long.
" ne~ ne~ Shanks-Jisan. When will Daddy come back?" Baby 5 said pouting as she draw a circle on the ground.
Shanks who is doing his usual workout stop before looking at Baby 5 with incredulous look
"Who ask you to call me 'Shanks-Jisan' Baby 5?" Shanks in an instant appear in front of Baby 5 and smile 'sweetly' as he ask the question, he want to pat the cute kid but...
*Slap*
His hand immediately got slap away
"Don't touch me Shanks-Jisan, only Daddy can touch me. Hmph" She turn her head sideway " And I ask a question first, you must wait for your turn. Daddy said people who misbehive, misbehave…. Um yeah misbehave will get spanks" somehow her expression turn happy when she mention about being spanks
"....." Shanks was speechless while inside he thought ' who the hell is going to-' he stop since there is one crazy person that will do just that if he ever questions that person. Thinking to that he shudder a little and stop thinking about it
"Don't worry, Yuuto-sensei will be back any minutes now" After he said that he then ask her " Now it's my turn right? Who said to you to call me Ji-san" while he is asking the question, he didn't notice that buggy slowly walk away farther and farther from them.
"It's Buggy-nii, he said that you will be happy if I call you that. He also said you have an 'old taste'?" she tilted her head in confusion "And he also gave me a cookies if I call you that!!!!"
Shanks face grew uglier the more he heard baby 5 talk. So in conclusion, he is being called old just because a clown bribe a little girl for a cookies?
Shanks turn his head sharply at where buggy suppose to be, but notice that he isn't there anymore, he turn to the other side and saw buggy running away and laughing like a mad man.
"GET BACK HERE YOU STUPID CLOWN!!!!" Shanks immediately rush at Buggy direction leaving the poor girl alone " HOW DARE YOU BRIBE AN INNOCENT CHILD LIKE THAT!!!! And I'm only 15 this years dammit"
"GYAHAhahahahaha, An old man without a sense of fashion, even sensei has better style you gyahahahahahaha" buggy laugh maniacally while spilting his body two to dodge Shanks sword wind slash
"And what a red nose like you know about fashion in the first place" shanks give another wind slash
"GEH!! This is what a fashion is, a man that has no taste in fashion like you has no right to said what I wear"
Baby 5 just pout at being left alone and didn't even bother to look at the two quarrel since she has more important things to do. It's to ask Daddy to come back early, even though he just go for about an hour ago
With that mindset in mind, she immediately skip happily to Mihawk and put her hand on her hips and start staring at him
Mihawk who is in mediate pose with his sword on his lap open one of his eye and look at the little girl in front of him. If it was in the past, the person who dare to interrupt his training will either just be ignore by him or in worst case scenario get cut down to piece. However his heart has soften a lot this past week being accompanied by this bubbly little energetic girl.
Well...if he ignore her, she will just keep bugging him either way. It's not like he has a choice anyways
"What is it?" Mihawk said simply, he is always a man with little word. He got a guess about what this little girl want to says but he just ask to make sure
" Can I borrow your phone? I want to call Daddy….." she stop to think for a moment before adding " If you let me, I'll tell you what Buggy-nii ask me to call you" she said after pondering for awhile, the reason she said this is because a couple of days ago she go through Yuuto used pant (I swear she didn't do anything pervert) and a thick book fell out of the pocket
She only learn to read a day before and although she is a quick learner, she couldn't understand most of the contents of it. But she did know the title of the books
Equivalent Exchange : Law of matter
Although she ask her Daddy to read this book to her, he just said that she was still too young for it. But he did explain the simple term of it, 'You must pay a price with equal amount of what you want' it can be said that he just said something the basic of the basic of how things work.
It's such a simple word but it change how Baby 5 view her whole life
In her whole life she work tirelessly day and night for anyone as long as she can receive even a little amount of attention from someone, mostly her mother. And it even further strengthen and to absurd level of it after her mother abandon her.
She want to be useful to anyone that she didn't care if that person even care about her in the first place. But after meeting Yuuto and spend time with him and his student, she began to realize that they don't want anything from her.
She first thought that Yuuto want to adopt her because he want her to work for him, which she was okay with that. After all, she already set her goal to ' Live to Please' anyone that ask her a favor.
And that's why when she heard the sentence 'You must pay a price with equal amount of what you want' it's collapse how she view her surrounding. The word by itself is a simple sentence, but when it was combine with her experience of her short life, it brought a whole new meaning.
She didn't need to please other people anymore in return for just nothing, not even a gratitude. She can do anything she like with the exchange of her own happiness, not others.
But then she ask her Daddy another question ' Then… what do you want from me since you adopt me?' hearing that, Yuuto just smile and said ' I want you to be my daughter….' Seeing that she make a thinking face he continue
'Don't overthink about it, you will understand when you grow ups that something aren't just goes according to the rule or human logics. And that is including emotions'
Since that days Baby 5 swear to follow the code that she barely understands.
Equivalent Exchange
And that is what she was doing right now, in exchange for Mihawk lending her his phone, she is willing to sold buggy out and in her mind this exchange is fair.
Equivalent Exchange is being use at it's finest
"…." Mihawk stare at Baby 5 for a moment with speechless expression. She has been doing this type of 'exchange' a lot this day, for example yesterday when Buggy was basically being force to give out a portion of his meal to her in exchange for a piece of bread crumbs. Luckily for buggy, although Yuuto was amuse by their interaction he was the one who give out his portion. Although in the end Baby 5 refuse and just eating while pouting.
He took out his flip phone from the back of his pocket and give it to her, which she happily accept
"Keep that secret of your, I don't want to hear it" he want to get back to his meditation, but when he heard Baby 5 next word the corner of his mouth twitch violently
"Thank you 'Vampire, pale skin, weird sideburn, gloomy looking' nii-san" Baby 5 smile cheerfully grasping the phone and flip it open before searching for her Daddy number "What did you save Daddy name in 'Vampire, pale skin, weird sideburn, gloomy looking' nii-san?" if she bother to look at Mihawk face right now, she will notice that he has an ugly face right now
He stand up and focus his gaze at the silhouette of Buggy and Shanks before walking toward them with his sword on his back and wearing an eerily 'calm' expression
"Eh? Where are going 'Vampire, pale skin, weird sideburn, gloomy looking' nii-san? Baby 5 tilted her head to the side
"I'm going to cut something for a moment, stay here" he then vanish from the spot, but before he vanish he left a word "I save it under the name 'Master'"
Baby 5 just shrug he shoulder and proceed to call her Daddy
