A shocking scene

Ignoring the fallen specimen the second Brute arrived before him. He had long since switched the crude axe to his right hand and timed a wide hit from the right. Making use of his abnormal strength he launched the Goblin into the cave wall. Crashing through the first layer of stalagmites some of its body parts scattered.

It got utterly destroyed.

The same applied to the crude axe. The stone was missing and the hilt broken. Jumping towards his first victim he secured his broken blade. Pulling it out he was hit by a bloody fountain.

He went up just in time to witness relatively slow lightning hitting him. Not.

As with all magic attacks until now it bounced of. It couldn't kill its caster but paralyzed the Goblin long enough for him to reach it.

And so did the Swordman.

While the second group had fired their spells towards his previous location he grappled the paralyzed shaman and threw it onto the blade of the Goblin Swordman. That was another one down.

With its sword blocked the Swordman looked like a free kill for him.

But before he could even attempt to attack another lightning current arrived, bounced of and charred the defenseless Swordman.

With no enemy in close proximity he switched back to his original plan. He dashed along the wall on his left towards the exit hoping to flee.

His instincts rang alarm not a second later. Sliding painfully on the ground after ducking mid dash he saw a spear impacting and bursting at the wall. It dawned him he wouldn't be able to leave without a fight.

Not anymore.

The next moment another Fireball came flying. Lucky for the Chief one of the Goblins further back had arrived there. As it stood in the reflected spells path the Goblin Chief was saved.

At the same time the last Goblin had dashed forward and confronted him. It was by far the fastest enemy he encountered so far. The club in its hands was bigger than the Goblin itself.

As magic evidently posed no threat to him he had an idea. He dashed towards the casters which stood in the middle of the cave. But he had to be careful of the Chief as it had the highest level he ever encountered.

And his plan worked out.

The Fireball arrived first, followed by a lightning current. Hit by the rebounding flames the Shaman burst ignited, just for the lightning to strike the Chief standing in between the casters.

It wasn't paralyzed as he hoped for but at least unable to block his attack on the Mage. Slipping past the Chief he rushed for the defenseless caster. With a swift swing he pierced the neck of the fleeing Goblin.

Only a second later he had to dodge a club crashing down. That damned berserking Goblin was back for a kill.

Evading two more attacks he sprinted through the cave not to be an easy target for the spear throwing chief. The miserable sword in his hands couldn't block the club and the Goblin was trashing it around like a madman. Some of the strikes had a power and speed that should be physically impossible.

He had to find a possibility to strike back. Even the Chief had started to throw his spears.

Concentrating on his strange energy he tried to collect it inside his right hand. It felt like it took forever to gather it while moving.

Just seconds prior he gained enough distance to try this move.

As the Fireball finally manifested in his hand he turned around and jumped backwards while aiming towards the rushing Goblin.

Unsure if it was even possible the ugly face of the goblin showed him a shocked expression. And then it was consumed by the flames of his Fireball.

Or so he had hoped for. As the berserking Goblin broke through the flames resumed to chase him. Glad not trusting a single Fireball should have defeated his foe he was long back on his feet. Running from it he started the casting again. He felt his energy drain as the spell launched after quite a long time.

There had to be no living being dumber than Goblins. Otherwise his plan shouldn't have worked out. At least that was what he thought as the second Fireball hit the Goblin again in the exact same manner. Still burning it stumbled forwards, closing in on him. But it still didn't fall.

Thinking it would be impossible anything would fall for the same trick three times he got another idea.

This time he concentrated on the other skill he gained not that long ago. After a couple of seconds he knew what to do.

Channeling the energy he started slowly getting used to into his hands he got perplexed. While similar but different words went through his mind the energy gathered way faster. It took a lot more energy but even while moving he completed the spell in seconds.

The berserking Goblin was steadily getting closer. Ti seemed to have gotten faster as the fight went on. But it was all for naught.

As the spell went of it automatically aimed for its target and unloaded its devastating energy on hit.

And devastating it was.

The paralyzed Berserker slid over the ground and had died before he stopped. While the smoke rose from the corpse as it burned from the inside he received a welcomed notification.

On to the next target.

All that was left for him was the Chief. Of course he had not forgotten it. Still dodging the damned spears it threw, picked up and threw again for who knows how long.

That last [Lightning] spell he used was quite taxing on his energy. That much he knew. Not planning to exhaust that strange energy within him he looked for openings and ways to attack.

His first action was to take the big club from the fallen Berserker. Feeling the weight he was even more shocked how fast it could move this weapon.

While sidestepping the incoming spears he closed in on the Chief. As he had closed in it still had three of its short spears and a long wooden shield.

With a wide swing from the left he hit the shield square, only to get the club redirected and a stab from the spear.

Though he had somehow anticipated the trajectory of the spear he still got grazed at his left rib cage. Grabbing the clawed green hand on the spear with his left he executed another spell.

With [Air Magic lvl.1] he had learned another spell besides [Lightning] which was a lot faster to charge even while moving. As it also required a lot less energy it therefore came with the condition of close proximity. How close he didn't know but touching was sure to suffice.

The recoil of the electric current he sent into the Goblin numbed his hand. While the Chief was quivering while he got electrocuted he now stood still.

Not wasting his chance he raised the club behind his back an jumped. As he swung down the big weapon with all his might he suddenly felt its weight decreasing and the swing speeding up even further. It felt like his spine and heart had heated up for just a split second...

And then the club made contact with the Chiefs ugly head.

Instead of a rebound and the sensation of hitting something hard it felt soft. Even as the club dove further, smashing through the torso towards the rump. The Goblin, or better the green and red meat he hat hit, glided to the tip of the club.

As he hit the hard ground generating a small depression, the weapon shattered. The wood splinters flew to every direction.

With a squishy sound the Chief fell backwards and turned into experience points.

Though happy to have defeated it he couldn't help but vomit at the transmitted feeling of mashing a humanoid being. The sounds of it and the iron smell didn't help at all.

It gave only forty points though it had the same level as the mage which donned him fifty points. He reasoned it to depend on his level or the difference between him and his opponent.

Not lazing around he searched the Goblins corpses. A shoulder bag containing some herbs and another stick was all he found on the casters. Pulling the shortsword out of the shaman he found nothing more of use. The Goblins seemed to travel without provisions as he could only spot a fireplace and some rags on the ground.

Of course the loincloth was left untouched!

Leaving the cave after the battle he didn't even wanted to fight he greeted the first rays of sunlight for days. It probably felt even longer than it took but he was sure even the travel through the caves took him two or three days.

After a couple of steps he halted to take in the view. He was standing on a small platform at the foot of a mountain. Down the slope to his feet he saw a valley of trees. A path to his right went down there.

As breathtaking the scenery was, he could not spot a single hint of civilization.
